So What Are Your Thoughts On Pete Werner

He looked extremely slow getting out flanked by the Falcons and even when he gets to a spot, he looks to small and weak to make a noteworthy stop. Wasted pick?
He brings his lunch pail and hardhat to work everyday thought. First one in the building, last one to leave.

he hasn't held a candle to Anzalone lately.
i've noticed it seems like he's regressed lately and i was a huge fan of his prior. Seems to lack physicality to fight off and fight through blocks especially in run game lately. It seems he's lost weight too, thinner. who knows.

He was a tackling machine last year and has definitely taken a step back this year.

Something is up this year. Maybe he is following the Saints old tradition of playing hurt and no one seems to notice or care.

I think he’s playing hurt. He doesn’t look as confident and explosive as last year

He has a shoulder issue now but not sure if it happened during the game last week or some time prior

Our DL play is also not helping. The platoon we had last year definitely surpassed what were doing now

He's scrappy, with a high motor. Has a high football IQ, good fundamentals, and plays the game the right way.

Of all LBs that have played at least 20% of snaps, Werner has gone from the 6th highest rated in '21 to 42nd in '22 to 71st in '23. I know PFF has it's detractors and I personally don't think it's very useful to look at a single player's ratings and determine if they are good or bad in a vacuum. I do think it's valuable to look at how players compare to each other within their position groups for that season, especially players on the same team, for example:
The DL has been terrible, but it's hard to use it as an excuse for Werner when Davis is still the 7th highest rated LB when using the same metrics that have Werner rated 71st. Davis hasn't made the amount of splash plays that he has in years past, but he's still just as effective snap to snap as he's always been. I think Werner will be fine, but he's definitely been disappointing the last 2 years. He looked like a future All Pro his rookie season.
