Back to the point, I'd agree with you if we were getting them at the starts of their careers. Nicks has got plenty of years left if he goes with the average lifespan of his position. Plenty of years of being a top 3 guard at that imo.

Williams has been sliding down the far side of the hill of his career the last two years missing 3 games in 2010 and 11 in 2011. Especially considering his position and effectiveness depend 75% on speed on the get off, I'd say hes got maybe 2 more years left of being that main pass rush guy if he can say healthy.

Better move for the year, prob williams. Better move for the next decade, nicks.

Colston on the other hand.....doesn't bring as much to team as mario would. He's one knee injury from a disaster. He's the man, but I gota tell it like it is. He can't have that many great years left.

I'd say this, the nicks/colston option could be the safer of the two. The potential reward of Mario could be higher as well.

What if the value of Nick and Williams would be same?

Take Colston out of the picture. He is resigned, say.

I currently have a 79% winning percentage in my fantasy leagues all time, so I will be the voice of reason here.

We should trade Brees, Nicks, Colston, and Vilma for Tebow, Von Miller, and some cash.

I agree with most of what you said. But Williams if healthy has more the 2 years left, he's just about to turn 27. In 2010 he probably would have played thru the season if they were in contention, but they shut him down once they were out of it. If the Saints could get him and keep Nicks it would make more sense.

I guess. It seems the addition of Colston proved too much. So, now its just Nicks vs Williams. Who do you sign if you can only afford one?

Would be dreamy if we had will smith, jordan, mario, and galette all in on a package.

NFL common logic says you go pass rusher first. Nicks is valuable no doubt... I just view as tough for the saints to shell out the dollars for two of the highest paid guards in the league.

personally, i think Colston is a tad over-rated. He's injured more than we'd like, and doesnt have breakaway speed. More of a posession receiver, which are a bit easier to replace than say a Calvin Johnson. Not to mention he's only involved in a small percentageof the offense. I dont think losing Colston has a dramatic impact with a QB like Brees, esp when we have the offseason/draft to deal with it.

Nicks on the other hand, if we dont have someone that prevents the push in the pocket, it could destroy our offense. So to answer this question id have to look at whats on the roster or available in FA to step in. We definitely stand to lose more with Nicks than we could gain with Edwards, particularly if we cant find a suitable replacement.

If we have a suitable replacement, then id lean toward Mario.

After thinking about it for a bit,I would say, given the Nicks vs Williams that Williams value as an elite pass rusher trumps an elite guard. Mario Williams would help the D now and I think the O could be just as good.

First let's get one thing straight, Williams is not leaving Houston. They will franchise him if need be. Now let's play along and figure he is free to leave....

by position value alone, DE>>>>>> WR/OG combined. Throw in one of the top DE's in the league, then there's no question that you take Williams over Nicks/Colston.

The injury issue with Williams is a wildcard though. Missing 3 games in 2010 isn't a big factor, since quite often players may miss a couple of games. I think people are too quick to label a guy as "injury prone" just because he had an injury or two. Schaub had this label due to two years in a row of injuries, but both of those were legit injuries that would've knocked even Favre out of the games.

Let's not forget Colston's injury history in this as well. Can't look at one and not the other.
