While I don't disagree at all, Brees was pretty good before Nicks got here. And it seems like we have a rotation of pro bowlers on the o-line. The one constant has always been Brees

Yup, but Nicks helped him get superbowl (not to be confused with Super Saiyan) good

Agreed, but we shouldnt let the best of these go. He should be our number 2 priority in contracts this offseason.

I wonder how good he'll be without Freeney on the other side?
I compleltely agree with not signing the biggest name, look at what the Texans did last year signing Joseph and Manning rather than Ndami.
I think Williams will play somewhere besides Houston next year.

nicks/colston and it isn't close
people very easily forgetting that we were 13-3 as is and 70 seconds from hosting the NFC title game
we are always going to be a primarily offensive team...I'd rather our offense stay a 10/10 and try to get our defense just a little better than lose 2 HUGE reasons why our offense is so prolific to take a gamble on an aging pass rusher coming off a major injury.

Amen. We've got the talent here to win another superbowl. Why go out and bet on a question mark when you've got the sure thing in you're own stable?

Nope, they just realize the reason they didn't host the NFC CG is because of failing on D.

Williams is 2 years younger than Colston and the same age as Nicks FWIW. Injuries are a concern and as someone else mentioned he gets his sacks in spurts. Will cost too much, I think the Saints could find a next tier guy for a lot less. Hou got Brooks Reed in the 2nd round last year, around where the Saints will be picking this year, hopefully the Saints can find a guy like that

There are no sure things, Brees is the closest. I understand not wanting to lose a guy like Nicks, and I agree but even after winning a SB, you have to make moves to improve or you will get left behind.

If we don't lose our best OL and our top 2 WR, sure.

gotta throw out the salary cap aspect again...
You can say we won the Super Bowl with Colston, Nicks, or whoever. Even more clear though is we won the SB paying them on a cut rate early 2nd contract and a 5th Rd rookie contract. It sounds wonderful to keep the family together (and I hope & believe it can be done) but the reality of cap management necessitates change. The high performance and low cost of those deals is more what won the Super Bowl. That prevented the team from being hemmed in on player options (what we're seeing increase). The best similar example I can think of is Richard Seymour. He was a fan favorite, had plenty of ballin left, and a big loss to cope with in NE. They had to though or deal with mounting salary cap hell. We're not at a must let them go crossroad but it's not too far off. Signing all of the big 3 will certainly restrict the options further going forward.

Williams is a much better player than either. It would all depend on the contracts they want.

Seriously? Nicks is probably the best linemen in the league. Some people around here don't know how good his is.

Im all for letting Nicks and Meachem walk, especially Nicks. I don't want to tie that much money into 2 OGs. I think our FO knows that too.
I think Colston needs to be back. He just fits too well.

Williams is better
You may value DE more than guard but to compare the two at their respective positions isn't a comparison. If I named the best DE/OLBs (let's call it pass rusher) it would be a little while before I got to Mario. If I name the best guards in the league, Nicks would come up very, very quickly.

Maybe if they don't call saint090 (trade brees thread) they can get a poll here to decide what to do. I know we all saw the genius of drafting a punter and players from colleges ya never heard of.

not so sure I completely agree...you're not winning many games that you turn it over 5 times in...it was a total team shitshow...the defense actually kept us in that game when it could've been a lot worse a lot quicker
the saints were plenty good enough to host the nfc title game and make it to the superbowl they just had a bit of a meltdown at a very key moment.
add to the fact that we lost the Rams game and Tampa games primarily due to ineptitude and turnovers on offense...

Agreed. Nicks is way more valuable than Williams

They put up this stat in the game. I think teams with 5 or more turnovers won 1 out of like 73 games.
