Should Saints draft a QB this year?

All I know is there’s a bunch of good QBs in this draft:
Caleb Williams
Drake Maye
JJ McCarthy
Quinn Ewers
Jaden Daniels
Shedeur Sanders
Bo Nix
Michael Penix Jr
Too many good names not to pick one. Would love Ewers in middle first or Jaden or Sanders in back of first.

For Pete Carmichael to groom? I want no part of drafting a qb until I know who is coaching him up.

if the opportunity is there.
Yes.
Carr looks too uncomfortable for as many years in the league he has played. A lot of season left but I'm just talking about what I've seen so far. And for all the talk about the O-line play, it hasn't always been bad. So then it becomes who is getting open and the design of the plays.
If not, the Saints could acquire an elite talent at a different position beacuse other teams will no doubt target/settle for a QB when given the chance.

When you don’t have a franchise QB you better take every opportunity to get one

Not that this matters, but I saw a Coach Prime "interview" in some football thing that always pops on Facebook where he explained his kid was going to stay another year because he didn't want to play second fiddle compared to the talent prospect of Williams.
Probably all just bluster, but looking at this list it would be a great idea for Sanders to stay.

You misspell only one guy's name and it's the guy who plays for LSU

I agree and for some reason I think this weekend at Houston is going to be a tough test

Ugh I knew I’d misspell one.

Feels too good to pass up. You have Carr for 1-3 more years left however long you need to coach up the new QB. Then you can jettison Carr easily with his contract when the new QB is ready.

I can relate, I seem to always do that in the worst possible situation.

Honestly, and you’re all gonna thin lol I’m insane…..
But I think Haener could be damn good. The kid has amazing pocket awareness (and no, I didn’t just watch the highlights. My brother played for Fresno St). If the next coach is an offensive minded coach, or at least hires a decent OC, Haener could shock the league.

A QB heavy draft.
Worth taking a shot.
You have to find that young franchise QB via the draft.

No reason to think otherwise.
Unfortunately.

With there being no true rhyme or reason when it comes to a statistic for a QB’s success based on round picked, I say you draft one at some point each and every year.
Ultimately it’s coaching, coach-ability, and system that will dictate how well they do in the NFL.
That said, you’ve still got to fish in order to catch anything.

I generally agree with the sentiment but the only concern is limited roster spots. Can only really keep three QBs and you probably want one to be a veteran so you’re dumping a player every year almost.

THe Saints should draft a QB in every round of the next two drafts.
Maybe that will shut some of you up.

What’s the case for not drafting one?

Let me start off by saying I think the team should target a QB in the 1st, but to answer your question.
If this team does enough to get into the playoffs and not get embarrassed, expect DA to come back at least 1 more year. If he keeps PC as his OC, IMO that rules out QBs like Daniels & Sanders. I think both would be busts in Pete's offense.
Back to the hypothetical, team does enough to get in the playoffs, that has them drafting around 20. Accidently win one, you're now mid-20s. With the talent coming out, and the number of teams needing QBs; I don't think a Rickey Williams type deal gets you in the top 10. So the top 3-5 guys could be out of reach. Now you are looking at Nix or Penix and comparing to continuing to ride with Carr and Haener. Does their analysis on these 2 suggest they are that much better than what is in house? Of course, that would really depend on who is doing the analysis.
New OC will want a new QB, keeping Pete most likely means you're keeping Carr/Haener

If Denver keeps sucking, we’ll have the first pick of the second round.
We’ve succeeded before with a QB picked at that stage.
