Back to the hypothetical, team does enough to get in the playoffs, that has them drafting around 20. Accidently win one, you're now mid-20s. With the talent coming out, and the number of teams needing QBs; I don't think a Rickey Williams type deal gets you in the top 10. So the top 3-5 guys could be out of reach. Now you are looking at Nix or Penix and comparing to continuing to ride with Carr and Haener. Does their analysis on these 2 suggest they are that much better than what is in house? Of course, that would really depend on who is doing the analysis.

The Athletic projects Ewers to go in the mid rounds. I’d trade up from 20 to 13-15 to get us there. The benefit of this draft is that there are good QBs projected at all levels in the first and early second. And I disagree that Sanders and Daniels would be a bust in this offense. I’m not sure the logic why they would be.

Even if we don’t think a QB is better than Carr, getting an even replacement on rookie scale is gold.

I would take Ewers or Penix if they are still there in round 2.

Because Pete's offense is archaic and demands the QB to play within the tackles. Hell, probably within the Guards. QBs like Sanders & Daniels would benefit from a more advanced offense that allows them to utilize all of their tools; including the ability to move the pocket and make throws from a non-fixed spot.

This is a very good point. I wouldn’t not draft a QB because of Pete though. Dude is expendable

Feel the same way and is why I would target a QB this draft regardless of what happens this year. Hell, Carr could suddenly turn it around and play well enough for MVP considerations and go on a legit run in the playoffs; and I'd still want the team to consider drafting a QB in the 1st. Teams should be taking note of what GB did with Favre-Rodgers, and Rodgers-Love.

But I don't get to make those decisions. And if Pete is in the room helping make those decisions you can bet he'll suggest they pass on any guys that don't fit his system.

The reason to me why it’s so compelling this year is the number of QBs. Most years these guys would all go top 10 for teams needing a QB. This year we have a shot at one. I don’t see them letting us bottom out enough to get a top pick so this class feels like the right moment.

The saints should draft a QB every year until you find a fricking QB.
