re: Shough has to start and be good next year to justify this pick, right?

It’s weird none of the pumpers of this pick will sign on to him being an above average NFL starter

hey you know it's a crap shoot and you can't be critical if it doesn't work, even though it makes no sense and the odds are strongly against it

Saints made two majorly bad decisions before this in the offseason.

1) they kept Mickey and worse

2) allowed him to run the head coaching search that resulted in hiring an overrated Kellen Moore that no one else wanted as a head coach.

In the end, this is a horrible pick given that they likely could have gotten Shough in the third or 4th round easily.

Instead, they will waste picks and likely miss out on a QB next year because you aren’t going to admit this was a stupid stupid move.

In the end, idiot Saints fans that refuse to accept that this team doesn’t deserve their support will continue to give these people money.

Carr being done as QB is not irrelevant in any way as to our next starting QB.

So your arguing in your own words if he is not a starter next year and top half he isn't worth the pick.

I'll communicate this firm SFP timeline to him.

Saints are fricking terrible at drafting and can’t get out of their own way.

This was a dumb pick and anybody who defends it is an idiot.

McCord would have been a better flier in the 3rd and you'd have gotten same or better production.

Bottom out. Sell the team and dispense of this bunch of nonsense.

Why do we even bother with these goofballs year after year? It's not like we own this GD team. It's not like we went to school there.

I hate everything about this team. I don't know why I can't just make a full break.

No.

He is still a rookie in the league. If Carr plays, he holds the clipboard. Year 2 is when he will make an impact.

He wasn’t a top 15 pick. You can’t put those expectations on him

If Carr is an option, this pick moves into disaster territory.

Correct, because he's 26 when the season starts.

If he sits a year, he'll be our starter at....27. That would be pretty shite. That's the whole point.

In this scenario he'll be a first year starter at 27 (and clearly not that good if Carr beat him out)

40% against pressure. Not good for a 25 yr old.

The issue is, all drafts arent equal. We have a potentially huge qb class coming next year with whats sure to be a top 5 pick.

There’s 4 or 5 guys in 2026 that are already better prospects than Shough, AND they aren’t old, AND they aren’t injury prone.

Now you’ve got 12% odds he pans out when you could have drafted one of 5 positions with more than double that hit rate in day 2. And you only have a year to find out if he’s worth a damn.

They actually think they can contend for the division this year.

That's why they made this pick. They think they're a mediocre QB play away.

Potentially

5-12 didn’t even get us a top 5 pick this year. Nothing sure about nothing.

12% what? What’s that based on? I fully understand it’s unlikely, but I am in the camp of drafting a QB every year until you don’t need to.

So let’s assume no carr next year and rattler starts over our young 26 year padwon. Do you pass on qb when you’re drafting top 3 next year ?

If there is a better talent available in Round 1 next year, do you pass on that player to cover up for this pick?

If you’re Loonis, you trade your second and fourth to do it too

Other GMs probably pray to have God guide their picks to help them have success on draft night, or at least have Mickey Loomis’ name pop up on their phone

Your optimism is admirable. But it’s still just optimism

ETA: and you glossing over the 26 prospects that are better than Shough right now, didn’t go unnoticed
