Lutz is the most consistent kicker in Saints history.
No thanks on risking that - remember Olindo NightMare, Martin Gramatica, Kai Forbath?

Waiver order. By not giving up a draft pick, they would either need the kicker to clear waivers, or use their waiver claim and hope no one ahead of them puts in one as well. And considering the hype around both (especially if Lutz is cut), it is highly unlikely no one will put in a waiver claim.
They also get to take on the current contract, instead of potentially getting into a bidding war and/or just trying to negotiate a new contract.
Good point. But isn't Denver 5th in the waiver order? If so, presumably their risk would be relatively low that one of the 4 teams ahead of them would put in a claim for a rookie kicker. Feels like they would trade for Lutz (a known commodity) and roll the dice a bit that no one would claim Grupe ahead of them.

68% last season on 19 attempts from 30-49 yards. That’s the kinda shite that loses ya ballgames, don’t care what he did five years ago.

Trade Lutz. He hasn’t been the same since the injury and the cap savings is worth it. Let’s move his contract and get a bullshite pick out of it.

Make a choice Lomis. Will be nice to finally gather draft picks instead of losing them.

Looks that way, so may not be a waiver wire issue. Looking at the current kickers, looks like the team ahead of them are pretty set; so it is odd that Denver would be throwing an asset at someone that will be cut anyway.
Bears - Cario Santos
Texans - Ka'imi Fairbairn
Cardinals - Matt Prater
Colts - Mat Gay / Lucas Havrisik
Has to be because it'll save them cap money this year that can be rolled into next season.

Simple. Put Grupe on the 3 week pup/IR list to start the season. Then make a decision unless he needs to pull a quad again.

Quite honestly, Lutz has been a great asset for the Saints but his best days are behind him. Time to move on with the younger guy and get the max in trade for Lutz.
