that was the right spot, our defense was stopping them every drive so we had faith that they wouldn't get much on us if it failed. and if we had recovered, chances are we would have scored again and drilled them deeper.

i know alot of other things dictate the game, and technically it should never come down to the kicker.. But it did...
If martin does his job, most likely we are undefeated or at worst maybe one loss, and people are loving life.....

I understand your point that it was not a good call and cost 3 points, but the TOs and poor FGs were the difference. I am not saying the points didn't matter, but that call was not what cost the game. The call was acceptable, but since it didnt work out it seems like the only difference

Payton is a good O coordinator, but does seem to make enough bad strategy decisions to warrant criticism. In this case, the on field mistakes was too much of a hole for a one dimensional offense. I am going to be sick if I keep thinking about this game.

It was far from the only difference, but it shows a pattern of Payton not knowing how to manage a game.
Maybe he is young and he will learn. Funny how a guy like Les Miles (albiet at a lower level of competition) takes gambles which always seem to work out but Payton takes gambles which never do. Is one lucky and the other not? Or does one know when to take those gambles?

Saints UP 7-0. Driving once again. Meachem doesn't make a crucial third down catch. Guess what happened next?

I think it has more to do with knowing your personnel. Payton's offensive personnel is driven by an air attack that is missing WRs and a TE. Reggie is not a grind it out runner, but a sattelite back that tends to fumble and can't earn yards after the contact. Deuce seemed very protective of his knees. deuce did show some drive, but looked apprehensive to make cuts and show acceleration through the hole.

the trend with payton is almost every game we lose is tainted by very questionable calls that verge on boneheadedness.....while some teams lose due to lack of talent, poor execution, missed fgs, bad playcalls....we lose too many games where the coach made a horrific blunder...calling a reverse pitch, running on a goalline front....

I don't understand why we are saying that we shouldn't put blame on Payton. Playcalling has been questionable for a while now, and the coach of an NFL team shouldn't be the reason for a loss anytime. Tampa Bay last year and now this! We are all overlooking the onside kick in the first half that was called for no reason when at the time the vikes couldn't move the ball at all on offense. Maybe Payton shouldn't be fired immediately, but he should never be a significant cause of any losses.

I am sorry, but i can't blame the onside kick for the loss. The call was acceptable, it was a gamble in the FIRST HALF that didnt pan out. The poor FG kicking and turnovers were the difference!
