Questionable decision followed by an even worse decision by Brees. It wasn't all on Payton.

Looks like the best way was the way he decided b/c the outcome was 22-17, in the good guys favor

Yeah, I don't mind the playcall (I would have still run it), but if it's not there, Brees needs to just fall on the ground.

I agree and Brees admitted it after the game, but we got a lot of Super Bowl winning HC, Pro Bowl QB's posting in the this thread

I have full confidence in both Payton and Brees. That said, both sides of the ball left a lot to be desired in choices and execution at the end.

Obviously, I'm glad that the Saints won but the game should have ended for all intents and purposes after Ivory got that late first down.

He does this all of the time at the end of the games. It works a decent amount of the times, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you take chances to win. It didn't work, but thankfully, we still won.

Have you seen Drew Brees's completion percentage? I had to work and was only able to watch the first half, but if we are arguing if it's a high-percentage play to let Brees throw the ball, then you need to look at the stats. It's a different call with just about every other QB in the league.

I think we could have accepted the penalty and tried to draw them offsides. We do that and we win right then and there. They don't jump we can take the delay and repunt it, since the punt was downed at the 20 anyway. We can use up more clock and even pin them inside the 20.

If we punted again it wouldn't get much better and we are risking a block. They were getting close all day to putting a hand on a punt. I don't think adding 5 yards would have increased the chance of Moorestead putting it inside the 20 to their pro bowl returner.

The play call wasn't bad, Brees should have just slide down instead of throwing a ball that didn't have a chance to be caught.

I was coming to post this exact thing. I like the play call there, you have a chance to ice the game right there without having to rely on your D.

My problem in that play is with Drew. If you have a guy that has separation and is open, make the throw. If nobody does, or it is even in question, just fall to the ground.

That play either has to be a dropped ball by the receiver, or a sack. I like the call though.

you should be able to punt block for 1 more play the same way you should be able to hit a 30 yd FG in the nfl....
these are standard plays.

The fact that you would take anywhere from 6-10 seconds off the clock is reason enough to do it when your under 2 minutes. Had we run it and brought it down to 1:10, it would be even more reason to rekick.

its the kind of shite that may not get you beat always, but will eventually.

The Titans gave us back a bunch of those seconds by running that draw play for a yard.. a play they wouldn't have run with 40 less seconds on the clock. It all worked out.

Yeah you should be able to but look at the cowboys tonight, you should also be able to hand the ball off to pick up 1 yard that is a standard play but the titans couldn't get it done.

If Mariani would have taken the second punt to the house or had a great return, everyone would be saying why did you punt to the pro bowl return man again after you put them on the 20.
