As mentioned earlier the Bucs gave up 2 firsts and 2 seconds plus $8 million to get Gruden. And you think the Saints can only get a 2nd and maybe a 4th. Hysterical.

I’ve heard it widely discussed outside of ST. Not only that I believe there is precedent as to what the compensation could be.

How would Payton like Jerry meddling in everything or does Jerry finally relinquish control and let Payton and his handpicked GM do their thing? I don't see Payton letting the owner dictate everything. Payton was ready to go to Miami so that tells me more than the Cowboys will be at play here.
The Saints had a lot of interest in Russell Wilson, Hackett is one game in and already made foolish decisions on the sideline. That marriage won't last long and Wilson might be a QB that enamors Payton more than injury prone Dak. I think the Chargers would be an interesting team to watch as well.

I was incorrect (apparently) as to the years remaining...I read it as this year and next, not this year and the two after it. I can see where Lester was coming from now.
Although that fact will most likely raise the compensation, I still dont think a Gruden level haul is gonna happen again...just different times now.
If ya dont agree thats fine, we'll find out down the road...in the meantime, all the best.

One is controlled by a collective bargaining agreement. It's spelled out very specifically how many games a player must play to get the year counted.
Coaches aren't under the same agreement. There are pluses and minuses in that for both parties. The contract itself probably spells this out.

He may not care. But the price for Dallas, who I'd say has a 95% chance of needed a coach this year and is desperate, will be higher than anyone else.
If Dallas were to pass and hire someone else, I'd think the price would come down for the rest of the league.

CSP can go anywhere he wants but if he goes to Dallas the Saints get Dallas's next five first round picks and CSP is only able to coach the Cowboys if he can drive around NOLA East for 24 hours without getting car jacked.

Thats not what it says at all. The saints hold the rights to Sean Peyton for the next 2 years that he is ACTIVE. In other words, Sean takes a 7 year break and wants to come back. Guess what? Saints hold those rights because he is still under contract for those 2 years. Now we could relinquish that for free, but we would be idiots.

I don’t disagree we won’t get that type of haul. But it almost surely has to be at least a first rounder and another draft pick. Obviously having more than one team seriously interested would greatly help. Pulling for the Chargers and Broncos, among others, to have a poor season. Hackett already put himself behind the eight ball after Monday night.

Idk why y’all are talking about compensation when nobody in the thread can agree on when his contract is up. Two different answers have been upvoted lol
First we need to know if it’s like Lester said and that he’s off the hook as soon as his contract would have been up if he didn’t retire or if it’s like the other guys are saying and that he could sit out for 7 years and then try to come back and would still owe the saints however much time was left on his contract when he retired.
Either way we would want compensation if he came back next year

Answer probably doesn't matter, he's not making it through 2 more off seasons and then coming back.

Don't think so, I think the contracts are through a date, in this case through the 2023 season.
