Including Mason Crosby. The week after Grupe was our only offense. I don't know why but I find that very amusing

Saints are trying out kickers today, per sources. Mason Crosby, James McCourt are among those in the group

Probably because once again he missed a late game kick that ended our chance to win the game.

We lost that game well before they trotted him out there.

Sure, but when we absolutely needed him to deliver to extend the game, he didn't. That's at least twice now. Like a bunch of other things with this team, that's unacceptable.

ETA These downvotes are a bit perplexing. Anyone want to explain them?

What does it matter. The season has been over before it started

Well if all we're ever gonna do is kick field goals, we ought to have one that makes them at least 85% of the time instead of this bullshite 80% we've been getting.

He did miss that last one that would have made it a one score game.

He's a rookie kicker with what appears to be good potential. Sometimes you just need to suck up the lumps while he grows into the position. Let's not lose sight that the one he missed was over 50 yards, and the other 5 were all good, even one from post 50.

This is silly knee jerk reactions by an unorganized organization.

What was silly and knee jerk was letting Lutz go for this guy.

You must be a miserable person when you take to the internet to angrily calling someone a piece of shite because he didn't kick a ball properly. The frick is wrong with people. The internet sure does bring the worst out of us.

calling a kicker out for missing 50+ yard field goals is disingenuous. Those are not 100%ers for anyone, and it is not the barometer for measuring the quality of a kicker. That he went 5/5 prior to this including one over 50 says more about his skill than missing a 54 yarder.

On top of that they were losing this game even if he makes it. They had 30 seconds to get the ball back and get a TD in a game where they had at least 9 other chances to do so and failed.

a couple of his makes were more concerning than his 1 miss in and of itself. i'm over supporting grupe. i think our staff could frick up anybody at this point.

He doesn't just miss 50 yarders though.

You don't know that. We only know that the game was 100% lost when he failed to make a kick.

But they still had a chance, and Groupee failing to perform ended it.

This guy sucks, plain and simple. That it took our staff this long to bring in competition for him sucks even more.

I neither support not diss him. I think he's a rookie on a bad team who people want to throw blame at when much of that blame doesn't belong on him. I agree that some of his made kicks were close to being misses. I also think he has potential to be good. Kicking is a mental game more than anything else, so being a rookie creates some of these challenges.

Bringing in competition for him at this point of the season is not going to help him. He doesn't need competitive inspiration; he needs confidence and experience. This may negatively effect that.

It's silly scapegoating by a stupid coaching staff.

Half of this statement is true. He missed it with roughly 30 seconds left in the game. Still had the onside kick, then figure out how to get a TD w/ time expiring.

It's a shame the bye week was so long ago and the team didn't have a chance to try out kickers then.
