Grupe is clearly over the hump, has earned most of our confidence, he seems like a legit NFL kicker and NOW this idiot staff is thinking about cutting him?

Sunday was his best game - that last miss was tough circumstances, and the first 4 kicks more than made up for it.

I no longer think he's going to miss when he lines up.

I've disagreed with you several times these last couple of weeks, mate. Are you getting enough rest? Enough fresh air and exercise? Or is it possible that I am wrong?

Sure, but when we absolutely needed him to deliver to extend the game, he didn't. That's at least twice now. Like a bunch of other things with this team, that's unacceptable.

ETA These downvotes are a bit perplexing. Anyone want to explain them?

He made 5 field goals, 3 of them from beyond 40. Even if he makes the last kick, which was from 54, it's still a 6-point game. That would have required recovering an onside kick, then scoring a TD, and, frankly, there was a better chance of them recovering the onside kick than scoring a touchdown.

Instead of auditioning kickers, how about fricking auditioning quarterbacks or offensive coordinators? Or head coaches?

Probably because once again he missed a late game kick that ended our chance to win the game.
That’s like blaming a working smoke detector for your house burning down.

The Saints need to be bringing in Head Coaches and Offensive Coordinators for tryouts.

I can't imagine you'll find too many disagreeing with this. Both things can be true

And even with that he's still near the bottom of the league. I get yours wasn't the best week to bring competition in for him, but the defense of this guy is just weird. Has he made a single clutch kick all season?

80% as an NFL kicker simply isn't acceptable. This isn't the 90s.

I’m not necessarily defending the guy per se, but he did his job Sunday. If you had tried out kickers after the Green Bay game, then OK. But he appears to be hitting his stride. A 54-yard FG is hardly a chip shot.

And on the list of things wrong with the Saints, kicker is way, way, way, way down the list.

This screams of “Look guys, I’m TOTALLY making moves to improve the team” by Dennis Allen.

What a fricking loser.

I mean, you're defending him with all this HE had one good game. We still have to hold our breath on extra points, as rare as they are. And his season percentage is near he bottom of the league. YEs we have many issues, but kicker is absolutely one of them.

Yes, we should have brought in more kickers sooner. But can't go back in time and change that.

Agreed, but that doesn't change the fact that kicker is a problem.

The guy was 5 for 5 before missing that last kick. Smh He should have been 6 for 6 with that last FG, and he misses. I don't think he's the reason why they lost against Atlanta, but he should have made that last kick, he was so solid before that. But kickers are always up and down, so, I'm not so sure about them replacing him. I say keep him and give him 1 last chance because I think the guy can become a solid kicker, but don't cut him for missing that 1 kick. It's hard finding dependable kickers, and this kid was just starting to develop some confidence you could see it. If you get rid of him, his confidence goes right out the window and he's back to square 1 with building confidence in himself all over again.

I guess you don't actually watch his kicks. He's almost missed several. The knighting for an 80% kicker is the same mentality that had us hire Dennis Allen

Only points last Sunday was Grupe 5/6 on field goals. Saints trying out kickers today further indicates how clueless they are. Pathetic.

You aren't going to bring up Grupe has an injury he's dealing with? Or the fact that 2-3 of his FG's were near misses?
