what did we get in return... if it's at least a 2nd, it's a good trade in my opinion

We would get that compensation if he left via FA anyway. 4th at worst and likely a 3rd.
May get better compensation with this trade. We'll see.

Alonte Taylor lighting it up in camp probably has a lot to do with this as well.
I hope so. I will miss CGJ. So Alonte will now be the nickel?

with just alittle work, you may be a better GM than Mike Mayok with your opinions
Do you have anything of actual substance to respond with?
Look at the cap hits of Jenkins, Hill, etc. and the young talent we lost because of that.
Malcom Jenkins is taking up almost $4M of our 2022 cap.
Nah, I just watch football, don't try to play pretend GM on a message board

hope the return is respectable.
CGJ is solid player, but he wasn't dominant by any means.
Wasn't he the one guarding Chris Godwin in the first Bucs game last year? Godwin went 8-140-1 in that one.
I mean if he wasn't guarding him mainly, my bad. But if I remember right, he drew him the most that game.
then at the end, he was guarding him when PJ Williams broke on the ball, picked it, and took it in for the score.

The restructure of Bradley Roby and the drafting of Alonte Taylor makes so much sense now.

But muh LSU players! the fans exclaimed
Maybe we’d have the money and position for him if we hadn’t signed Mathieu
Mathieu is a better safety than CGJ, and if Taylor is as good as advertised then the trade was smart. Especially is CGJ was becoming an issue for the coaches.

Bradley Roby will be the nickle, he’s been the 2nd best player in camp

Got that old first back?
It's not going to be a first.
I have a feeling we will be disappointed at the compensation.

Saints have so much faith in their scouting department to be able to replace veteran starters with rookies and potential future draft picks, as opposed to giving guys like CGJ the bag.
It’s sort of the model nowadays - teams like San Fran have also been doing it a lot recently.
The main exception to this strategy is Project Peat tho - still scratching my head over that one lol.

It will be Roby. At least he can now play more since we traded a 3rd for him.

Yeah there really is no idea what he was asking for but he views himself as the best slot corner so I’m assuming he wanted to be paid like one.
He wanted to be paid like a top safety. That was the disconnect.

Any chance we get a O lineman in return?
Posted on 8/30/22 at 10:31 am to gaetti15
Maye: $2.6M ($8.6M next year)
Mathieu: $3.4M (8.9M next year)
Hill: $5.13M (13.9M next year)
Taysom Hill's cap impacts on his current contract LINK
People ACTUALLY defended BOTH of his insane contracts on this board.
Marcus Williams's cap hit this year is only $4M

I'd be okay with that but most likely it's a draft pick?

This isn't 2018-2019, dude.

This. Roby had a great camp. CGJ had an aggressive playing style but by no means dominant. Better to deal him now.

You’re right. It’s 2022 and Mathieu is still a better safety.

Now hold on, it’s $7mm after that and then $18mm in year 3, which is certifiably insane.
