This board got out of hand with cooks value due to some reports. It's a good draft to have picks in and y'all have some ammo now

This is really the bottom line. 32 is generous enough, most teams realize Cooks on the Saints isnt the same as Cooks on their team.

Let's judge this trade in 2-3 years. We can see how our picks turnout and if Cooks continues his current production with even more mouths to feed in NE

and clearly we weren't offered 18 straight up for Cooks.

The way Payton was talking this is was what it was going to take.

oops..

guess not.

So we've got:

two 1st rounders picks..

two 3rd rounders..

not the worst i've seen but when is the last time a trade fricking worked for us in the draft??

Fair trade, Cooks will be a FA next season. He will demand 12 million a year. We can get a great corner. We need 2 since Breaux, Williams, and Swann is always hurt.

We didn't get back the draft position we spent to get him. That happens a lot, I know, but this was a player that was deemed successful for where he was picked at. If a player is a hit and is universally considered to be a great draft pick, how can't you get at least the pick value back when he is still on his rookie deal? Draft picks are over valued in the NFL IMO.

I think that it's the kind of trade that, with a normal owner, would get the GM fired if it didn't work out. Especially if that GM had a hand in a horribly run NBA franchise.

Not reading this whole thread don't know if it's been discussed. Draft pick values exchanged basically left a balance that would value Cooks at being the #30 pick if that makes sense

They couldn't even get the 1st and 3rd straight up. They had to throw in a 4th. This franchise is a fricking joke. Who were we kidding. These fools probably could only muster out a 2nd from the Titans. Gave up a top WR who will probably blow up like Randy Moss did for crappy draft picks that will likely become busts anyway. Just like most of their picks. We ain't going anywhere, anytime soon.

Props to my boy Belichick for raping the dumbass Saints.

cant believe we couldnt even get the 96th pick, we took their fricking comp pick that cleveland sent them for jamie collins.

So ultimately, patriots flipped jamie collins + 1st for cooks + 4th

So basically we traded our #27 and #91 for #20 to draft cooks in 2014 and then now in 2017 we traded him(#20) and our #118 for #32 and either #96 or #103. frick

Ole Walt likes the deal for both teams, thinks Saints came out ahead:

quote:

Patriots acquire WR Brandin Cooks, 4th-rounder from Saints for 1st- and 3rd-round picks My apologies for being slow with these grades Friday evening. I just got home from a wedding rehearsal dinner (my fiancee's sister is getting married tomorrow), and I'll get to all of the grades shortly. I have to say that despite it being speculated for days now, I'm still shocked that this deal went through. It's kind of crazy that the Patriots will have Brandin Cooks in their offense. I didn't even think they'd be in the market for a receiver because they had Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell and maybe Michael Floyd on the roster (plus Rob Gronkowski), but Bill Belichick apparently thought differently. It's going to be fun to watch Tom Brady have a new weapon like Cooks. He hasn't had a dynamic, downfield threat like Cooks since Randy Moss. It might be instinctive to point out that Cooks could decline because he won't be playing with Drew Brees anymore, until you remember that he'll now be paired with Brady, and there theoretically shouldn't be a drop-off. The price is a bit steep for my blood, but at least New England didn't have to surrender Malcolm Butler. I like the move for the Patriots, but I think the Saints are the winners of this deal. Cooks made it known that he didn't want to be on the roster anymore, and the Saints have two strong receivers without him in Michael Thomas and Willie Snead. New Orleans now has two first-round selections in a very deep draft, so they can use those picks to improve their woeful defense. Grade for Patriots - B+ Grade for Saints - A-

"I wouldn't say he's on the trade block but certainly when a team calls, a team that's looking for a receiver -- and we're looking to improve our defense -- we're always listening," Payton said to team's website. "I know Mickey (Loomis) has probably spoken to a handful of GMs or presidents with other teams, but right now I'm comfortable, we're comfortable with [Cooks] in a Saints uniform. We think the world of him and his skill-set. [Compensation] would have to be something real significant.

okay so not as bad as I thought.

i must only remember the hyperbole on this board.

its not that bad of a trade, I'm just bitter that Cooks didn't want to be here anymore. I felt like we had finally built a good WR group. The Saints got mad production last year from all of the big three.

now go watch us pick a RB or TE in the 1st round with one of those picks.

oh well.

With Cooks size, he isn't worth 12 million per year. He is a slot receiver. He gets out muscled for catches. Saints lost to Panthers at end of game when Cooks fail to come down with catch in the end zone. He wasn't strong to match up against 6ft corner.

Again, this isn't about losing Cooks. It's about not getting the most out of a very valuable asset. Not getting a defensive starter and/or higher 1st out of this was a pretty big failure.

Like I said, I think some are overrating him here. Yes, he is a good player, but I think we got a good trade value for him. His stats are comparable to willie snead and lance moore, both street free agents in this offense.

So what? He's fast and strong enough to get past press coverage and get open deep.

He pushed Sean Smith's shite in. Smith is ~6'3 and a good player.

He would have cost us $10m TOTAL over the next two seasons. Franchise him in 2019 and he's averaging $8m/yr for 3 years.

value chart:
32 + 103 for cooks + 118

32 - 590
103 - 88
total - 678

118 - 58

cooks value was 620, or 30th
