Doesn’t really matter but that doesn’t jive with anything that’s transpired this offseason. Of course he’s going to say that. He’s not going to admit the market he expected wasn’t there

I don't know if it was the market he "expected" vs just the market he hoped for.

He's going into his 16th season. Why not test the market to see if you can land one last big payday on the way out? If not, there was no big rush to commit to anything because he knew the Saints wanted him back and it's not like the offseason practices, etc were necessary for him. Ultimately, the offers were probably roughly the same and the little bit of a difference he could make elsewhere wasn't enough to override the desire to finish his career with the Saints.

I don’t mind him testing the market. But he’s been talking about getting paid since the season ended, and has been making subtle passive aggressive remarks about his contract situation here with regards to his value

He was already relegated to playing half the team’s snaps last year. Now we went out and added Wilson and Jennings to muddle his snaps even more. Now instead of the bag he was talking about getting, he gets an incentive laden deal with even more competition. At the end of the day the organization wins but you can’t help but feel Jordan misread the room and played himself

Not all sacks are created equal. He was a good ish / average DE last year that got lucky on a few of those sacks. We’ll miss Demario more but I understand not wanting to rely on him for multiple seasons.

I can. He never played himself. He got to play for the first time the role of a free agent. He probably enjoyed it very much.
He played himself into a grand all year farewell tour. He played all his charities to join in every week. Media tour every week. He played himself into a ton of weekly free advertising and can sell a lot of gear. He played himself into rarified Saints legend status that will grow each week. And he's getting paid to do it all.
I would say he is playing the game on and off the field very well. Better than most.

How can we even know this for certain. What if the incentive laden deal was the offer the Saints sent his way back in Feb/Mar, and he wanted to sit on the deal to test the market, but ended up signing the original offer? Do you think if he signs in Feb/Mar, the team still does not go out and add Wilson and Jennings?

100% they add Jennings and Wilson even with Jordan being signed.

He's far from his elite play, but 10.5 sacks is still impressive.

Jordan: 589 snaps - 10.5 sacks, 36 pressures
Wilson: 463 snaps - 4 sacks, 35 pressures
Jennings: 280 snaps - 2 sacks, 15 pressures

Wilson at least had the pressures, so he should be productive. He's just not as good vs the run compared to Cam.

I would not be surprised if the deal he ended up accepting was the original.

Wilson (26 y/o) and Jennings (28) are both on one years. From my perspective, those are deals akin to us taking on Chase Young, a try out of sorts, to see if they could possibly fit long term. Cam’s now back on a one year. None of them cost anything of consequence but there are only so many snaps to go around. Now that Jordan’s back there are only 600 vacated snaps.

Have you seen contract details for Cam?

Weird because I don’t think they announced the terms for Cam last year either

He ended up getting $6 mil. More or less this year?

Can't find the details, but I thought he also received a $2M bonus for that 10th sac which would put him just over $8M last year

The fact that everything reported it as incentive-based tells me that he will have a lower contract. Maybe a vet min deal (~1.3M) plus a $2M bonus. Also think they give him some easy incentives to hit, and if he gets close to any of the bigger ones the team has a history of paying those out.

I'm sure some of the incentives will be around his sacks totals to crack the top 10. Only needs 6.5 to crack the top 10 on the official list, but also needs 10 sacks to tie LT for top 10 (assuming Von gets 4+ to pass LT) on the unofficial list
