Saints lowered his cap number to $4.05M by converting $9M of his pay into a signing bonus, creating $7.2M in space. Jenkins remains a free agent after this season, with the Saints adding two void years.

Says 2 years hear but spotrac looked like it only added a year

What’s your point? Stephone Anthony was a starter for the saints too. You think devin white wasn’t a better MLB coming out of LSU just because he had not “taken an NFL snap”? Grant Delpit would be an absolute steal at 24 and an immediate upgrade over Williams.

Yeah I just heard that

That means they really didn't want to give him any money past this year
Still think we need a 3rd corner

He's saying you don't know that it will translate to the NFL

And people are hard on Marcus Williams when I think some of the blame should be on Dennis Allen's scheme

I think people are way sleeping on how great Delpit is gonna be. This dude played through injury all season long, still managed to win the Jim Thorpe award for best DB in the nation and did it in an era when most guys would've sat thru the season to save his draft stock(he was considered a likely future top 10 pick this time last year). But before this injury plagued season, he looked like the best and most complete safety to come out of DBU in my lifetime. He was a better prospect than Jamal Adams in my opinion.

People forget how dynamic he is when he is 100%. Dude is a 6'3 safety, with insane length, athleticism and instincts and can play either safety position. He can line up anywhere in the defense. Dave Aranda played him everywhere imaginable. He is physical unlike Williams, can play man coverage effectively and is a turnover machine. I remember one game where Aranda kept him close to the LOS the entire game and Delpit just lived in the backfield getting sacks and TFLs. He makes big plays everywhere. Seems like a good kid, did everything perfect in college.

If by some miracle Delpit drops to 24, the Saints better run to the podium. He will without a doubt be the best talent on the board.

Watch a video explaining how this impacts cap and frees up money. With the restructing we now have around 18 million available. Draft class expected to account for about 5 million, so that leaves about 13 million available.

Look for a move or 2 before the draft. This last line my thought.

We need a 3rd outside cb regardless, but we do still have incentive to resign him before FA next year.

If we can get him at a decent price it avoids the full $7.2 mil hit for a player we don't have next year for $1.8 mil + whatever new money hit for a player we do have.

If he plays well enough I can definitely see us giving him a 2 year deal next year (with the extra 2 void years still being there and allowing us to spread his new contract out also).

That doesn't work.

$9 mil ÷ 5 years = $1.8 mil per year.

$1.8 mil × 4 voidable years = $7.2 mil

You have to spread the signing bonus evenly. So unless they did some other weird shuffling I believe the 4 years.

Edit:
The math if it was only 2 void years adds up to only $6 mil saved this year/added to those years. It just doesn't work.

Faced with a big cap number for CB Janoris Jenkins, the #Saints chose to sign him to an extension that could keep him in the fold in the future: It’s a 2-year, $16.75M extension based on new money, source said. So, 3 years, $27M overall with $10.2M guaranteed — all in 2020.

I can live with that
He basically gets what he was suppose to this year and if he performs which he should, then 2 more years

The issue I have with Delpit is he often gets caught up in the moment and tries to make the big play instead of securing the play in front of him. I remember there were 2 drives that he could have ended against Texas where he went for the stick instead of wrapping up. The player broke the tackle, made the 1st down, and ended up scoring on the drive.

I don't recall if his injuries started against Florida or Auburn, but some of his "issues" were happening before those games.

Like I said before, I think he was getting caught up in the moment and tried to make the big play. Either that, or there was an effort issue from him. Both correctable, but both could be a cause for concern in spending a high draft pick (which is why I think he drops out of top 10-15).

I agree with you on delpit
I just think other positions need to be filled first
You have 3 good safeties now

I know you take bpa and I love delpit as a player
Reminds me of the derwin james situation

Not bad. CB2 for $8 million and if he doesn't perform cut him with no future guarantees.

If you think Stephone Anthony and Marcus Williams are in the same stratosphere of quality you either don't watch games or are extremely biased against Marcus Williams.

Stephone played on a crappy defense of teams going 7-9, he would not have started almost anywhere else. Marcus has been starting on the best NFC team over the last 3 years, and would start on almost any team in the NFL. Huge difference between "starting" and being a "starter."

I'm not saying Delpit won't be better but there is absolutely no way to know how he translates to the NFL before he has taken a snap.

So was this a last second decision to not turn in the restructure or was everything said yesterday just not true?
