That's a good thought right there. I mean even if that's not the case they have to go get somebody because there really isn't any depth.

it makes more sense to me to be the same position group (Keith Kirkwood signed tomorrow) though

They probably dont want to guarantee his salary for the year. Agreed with him to being him back after week 1

This was surprising, but it feels only temporary. Smith’s release could be a procedural move to get another player on injured reserve before bringing him back. Because he’s a veteran, he doesn’t have to clear waivers. He was their third-best linebacker this summer and he can be freely re-signed in a few days.

Relax. This is a move to get someone on IR and Smith will be back before the weekend.

He does not play special teams.

thats never gonna happen, he will be signed to another team before monday

He doesn’t hit waivers and can choose where he signs. If he already has an agreement with the team it’s just to make some roster moves

This is really the only head scratcher so far.
Something more is going on there. He was clearly the 3rd best LBr available on the roster.

Fml. We need him. The Saints absolutely HATE LBs who can play in space. Have for decades

Always some weird shite/shell games to move guys around that happens during the initial cutdown to 53.
He'll be back on the roster once practice squads and IR lists are sorted out.

Colts doing something similar
The Indianapolis Colts are expected to release S Ronnie Harrison
Harrison had just signed a deal with the Colts earlier this month but was unable to land a spot on the team’s 53-man roster before the start of the 2023 regular season. He was signed during the preseason due to the injuries the team was dealing with.

This is the only thing that I can see. And they have a handshake agreement.
But Allen shoujd have learned after last year losing Murray. All it takes is one team to lose a starting backer in week one to come calling.

Maybe the team talked to him, he said he wasn’t playing special teams, he thanked them for allowing him to put a few good highlights on film and is going to seek a faster track to starter somewhere else?

Fwiw DA said himself that there’s a good chance they bring him back.

Very on brand for you, so no surprise, but this post is ridiculously retarded. 1st, there’s no such thing as a “wasted” pick. There are picks that don’t work out, but literally every team in the NFL has multiple ones every single draft. Except maybe for the Saints who absolutely crushed 2 drafts where almost all their picks not only made the team, but became multi-year starters.
And an incompetent organization would be one that kept their draft picks after realizing some were inferior players to others at the same position, falling into the sunken cost fallacy trap. Drafted Pittman in the 3rd or 4th one year, cut him for UDFA Pierre Thomas. Drafted Anthony in the 1st round, realized he couldn’t play and cut bait after 2 years. Same with that 2nd round DB whose name escapes me. The Saints actually have a reputation for being one of the best landing spots for UDFAs because they’re willing to keep the superior player and cut the inferior one, no matter where they were drafted.
And the Saints organization has been one of the winningest ones in the NFL since 2006. Winning seasons in almost every one in 22 years save a few 7-9s. Kept their window open longer than maybe any team in the NFL save maybe the Patriots. In the era of parity, that’s the sign of a great organization. To call them “incompetent” is laughably stupid.
Which again, in fairness, is par for your course. Your posts chug cock on every board you darken the halls of. I can’t tell if you’re a butt-hurt a-hole or actually this fricking stupid. My guess is both.

I disagree. The year they took Rick Leonard in the 4th round when he wasn’t good enough to start in college and Ian book, I knew right away they were ‘wasted picks’
Was 2/2
