Sweet. I thought a guy with his pedigree might not go for that. But it’s actually perfect for the Saints. Since he doesn’t play special teams, the only value he would provide on game days would be insurance in case Davis or Werner got hurt. Not enough game day roster spots for that. We can finish a game with a backup who actually plays special teams.
But if Davis or Werner get hurt sometime during the year to where they’re gonna miss a game(s) then you just bring Smith up from the PS to start that week. But he’d already be practicing with the team, so it’d be an easier transition. Much easier than signing a guy off the street.
His value to the Saints is as a starter. And let’s face it, with Davis’s age and Werner’s injury history, Smith will likely get to plenty of opportunities to start at some point during the season.

personally, i don't see why we can't run Jaylon MLB, Davis WLB, Werner SLB in a 4-3 base
that's a lot of speed at the LB spot...
