JJ isn't the only one who has this issue though.

Olave is n't exactly electric after the catch either.

Shaheed has great speed so usually if he catches the ball in space or on a bomb he will be fine.

We need more pass catchers that can do more after the catch!

I agree with this. We have some guys that can catch, but very few that can do anything but go down after

This is the Saints in the nutshell.

But in all three cases, it’s placing a bet on the upside they’ve flashed.

Loomis (probably): This is the year, with the right coaching and system, that he'll finally put it all together and become an All-Pro. Then the contract will be a steal.

FFS, the Saints love to overestimate their ability to develop players.

Also if they "fill" their holes before the draft, Loomis is free to trade all the picks away to have 2 high-ish draft picks this year.

10 mil a year for Juwan Johnson????

This is horrible. Draft is loaded with young TEs this year and we overpay him. Moreau was starting over him this year.

Loomis is a freaking idiot. No way to get around it.

Moreau outsnapped him last year

Moreau 32/413/5 on 43 targets
Johnson 50/548/3 on 66 targets

Could’ve rolled with Moreau and backfilled the position through the draft

Again, we restructured Carr to eat shitty contract/cap situations like Johnson's $7M void year hit.

The combination of moves makes no sense OTHER than the FO/HC thinking we are Super Bowl contenders this year (we are not)

That's not why we restructured Carr. When we signed him this year was always a planned restructure (just like next year will be as well, but with a bigger out than this year if we want to cut him). Same with almost every player we restructure, they are planned in the contract from the start.

We restructured Carr to create space to use that space to make moves, which is what we are doing.

Anyone that thought we were trying to "undo this horrible cap thing" was sorely mistaken.

Then we're fricked.

People have been saying we're fricked since 2010 because of the cap. We've had good years since. I see more to come but people can disagree.

no they haven’t and 2010 was before the current CBA.

We’ve been saying the Saints a fricked by the cap since after 2020 when Brees retired and we’ve sadly been correct. Zero playoff appearances peaks of 9-8 and they continue to push the issue further which will only make it worse

They did because they thought Brees' contract was going to frick us all kinds of sideways.

It infinitely started to magnify in 2012, and people haven't shut up since.

If JJ was garbage as some have cried, we would not have signed him as we don't need his capspace.

Are you saying that the New Orleans saints have never signed a garbage player for more than they’re worth?

What a terrible move. He’s always hurt and not very good when he does play.

Loomis really likes his “looks like Tarzan plays like Jane” guys.

I’m excited about the coaching changes, but running it back with the same players over an extended number of years is seriously depressing. Especially at this price.

There are a segment of people that say that about all QBs once they get big contracts. They always said teams can’t win if the QB gets paid,

You are really talking about 2 issues. 1) if the QB gets a big contract people fret you can’t sign or keep enough of a team around him which is actually not entirely wrong, teams ultimately have to make tough choices like KC getting rid of Hill for example.

That’s different from the current Saints situation. The Saints went all in with Brees from 2017-2020 and pushed contracts out which was the right move because you had a HOF QB and a SB window but once Brees retired and the window closed it was time to suck it up. If done correctly it could have been a year or 2 instead they have doubled down on the strategy with a mediocre QB and an old roster. Blaming injuries or Dennis Allen is just living in denial

Johnson’s 4 OC will unlock him just like Carr’s 7th OC will unlock him. It’s coming. All these guys need is a change

Brees and the 2017 class hid the issues for one last run. That was 5 years ago

We haven't made the playoffs in 4 years, in the worst division in the NFL

We have almost nothing left of the 2017 class and our drafts since have been pretty bad.

We start every year with one arm tied behind our back due to the cap.

Makes him a top 10 TE in the league based on annual salary. That is about 10-15 spots too high.
