The OL had injury issues last year that effected to overall offense performance. A high draft pick to replace Armstead will be a longer term project. Rookie LT is a tough road. One of the fantasy sites had this years OL ranked #26.

quote:

The net effect of losing Armstead for the rookie Penning will be a negative this year, and the Saints didn’t do anything else to upgrade a unit that struggled last season. The offense is still controlled by long-time OC Pete Carmichael, but the offensive line has gone from elite to being more of a liability.

Certainly declined, but that bad?

26th?

That's crazy. Ruiz does bring it down.

Penning might get worked in.
Don't be surprised if hurst plays to start the yr.

We have one of if not the best RT and centers in the league starting. Ruiz was the top interior lineman in his draft class. And Peat is a multi year pro bowler. Armstead is always injured.

If they stay healthy, the line is far from a liability. I think Hurst should start at LT. And just give him help instead of moving pieces around.

Peat has not deserved to make the pro bowl 1 time.

He only got selected due to overall reputation of saints and their offense.

Dude flat out sucks and is often hurt.

Peat turns 29 in early November.

the last 4 years this is the number of games he's played.

2018: 13
2019: 10
2020: 13
2021: 6

Median= 10.5

Trust me, I’m a big Peat hater. Didn’t like the pick when we drafted him. Also hated giving him the contract extension he got. He seems to always miss or completely whiff at least one block a game.

But I’ve also witnessed him blow people up. He’s solid when healthy, which is also a big problem.

And the games I’ve watched him play LT, he was solid. I’d actually like to see him there full time in training camp and see how he does.

You may not agree he’s a pro bowl player, but you do realize coaches and players also vote them in. So apparently coaches that watch way more tape than me or you and players that have gone against him thought he was multiple years.

I think Peat is actually a good run blocker when healthy. The problem is that he whiffs too much in pass protection. When he whiffs..he whiffs bad, & the QB has no chance.

He's below average in pass protection...even when he's healthy imo. At least, he has been for the last few years.

Peat & Ruiz need to step up & have a good year. I'd actually be content will them having an average year. Ruiz has never had an average year, & Peat really only has 2 solid years...his 2nd & 3rd year with us.

Greg Van Roten just signed with the Bills. I thought he was a decent option, & especially for vet league minimum.

2022 cap # - 1.047 mil

He might not work out, but the Bills got nice value.

At the highest level of the sport a player needs to be more consistent than Peat

J.C. Tretter is still an available free agent Center. Im not sure if the coaches want to move McCoy from Center to RG, but Tretter is a legit Center & would probably improve our O-Line. He's really the only available Center worth doing this for though.

He's ranked as the #2 Center for free agents this offseason (according to WalterFootball)

J.C. Tretter, C, Browns. Age: 31.
It's unclear why the Browns released J.C. Tretter. He's still one of the better centers in the NFL. Tretter just turned 31, but centers can play at a high level well into their mid-30s.

It's kind of a risk, but I'm just pointing out a potential option for us.

With Van Roten now off the board at OG...these are the OG's still on the market.
#09 - Daryl Williams, G, Bills. Age: 30
#12 - Quinton Spain, G, Bengals. Age: 31
#13 - Richie Incognito, G, Raiders. Age: 39
#16 - Ereck Flowers, G/OT, Redskins. Age: 28
#17 - Kyle Long, G, Chiefs. Age: 33
#18 - Lane Taylor, G, Texans. Age: 32
#20 - Oday Aboushi, G/OT, Chargers. Age: 31
#22 - Michael Schofield, G/OT, Chargers. Age: 31
#27 - John Miller, G, Panthers. Age: 29
#28 - Dr. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, G, Jets. Age: 31
#32 - Matt Skura, G, Giants. Age: 29
#35 - Senio Kelemete, G, Chargers. Age: 32

we're still in the top half of the league. if our new lt shines, then we'll be back to being a top 10 oline.

You’re assuming they all take the voting seriously. It’s clear a lot of players don’t even care about the Pro Bowl given how many opt-out every year. Here’s another thing, they’re not watching tape of every player for every game they play in the league.

You’re seriously trying to justify Pro Bowls as being legit measurements of a player’s success when everyone knows it is a joke. Demario Davis has never made a Pro Bowl despite being elite the last few years. Ryan Ramczyk is a 3x All-PRO and has zero Pro Bowls. I guess the coaches and players didn’t vote them in because they “watched the tape”.

Also one of his pro bowl seasons was a year in which he missed 6 whole games. He absolutely did not deserve it that year

Peat has put out some very good tape
I agree, there is a reason he has been a pro bowler.

He gets hate for the couple huge whiffs. Obviously he is hurt too much and is overpayed but aometimes people ho overboard.

Id also start hurst at lt to at least start the yr.

Love tretter as a player but i think the whole moving mccoy thing is in the past.

I think this yr marrone will try to help ruiz and if it doesn't work out you replace him next yr.

Honestly I hope they give Hurst the chance to beat out Penning or Ruiz. They will play Peat because of what they are paying him. What if Hurst wins the job at LT but Penning moves Ruiz off of RG at least to start his career? The best 5 should play regardless and right now the only spots we know are locked are RT and C.
