Maybe "criticizes" is a strong word but he definitely questions his work ethic. Most likely motivational ploys for each of them, wanting Clapp to keep grinding and wanting to push Leonard.

On Clapp:

quote:

He brings a work ethic to practice every day," Roushar said. "He gets probably more snaps than anybody else out there when you start looking at roles and numbers, and he never misses a beat. He just keeps coming."

Clapp's stamina and consistency have made a key impression.

On Leonard:

quote:

Leonard is also learning what it takes to be a part of the Saints' offensive line culture.

"His work ethic is improving, yet that again is still too inconsistent for our standard in that room," Roushar said. "Yesterday, we soaked him with a ton of reps. We oversoaked him, just trying to see, mentally, how he'd respond, and felt like he was hanging in there pretty good, and just at the end, we wanted to see him fight through it better than he did."

Hopefully not but the one who is really sweating bullets is that one guy in the Saints org. who really pushed this pic.

It's always encouraging to hear the 6th-7th round projected tackle we took in the 4th has a shitty work ethic

They are being hard on him in public to reduce the draw by other teams to poach him before he makes it to the practice squad. They are probably sure of at least 45 roster spots at this point, that's not a lot of room for rookies to make the team.

This is FO speak for "he's not ready this year." Not super surprising to me with a player from a Jimbo FSU offensive line. So much of what LSU (and most SEC teams) does on the Oline translates into a near seamless transition to the NFL.

If Devante Harris didnt clear waivers there is no way a 4th round pick in the same years draft does either.

Teams may not be "that" high on him but someone will want to take an up close and personal look at him especially because of the value placed on the position.

If they want to keep Leonard you have to carry him. If they drop him I see it as a calculated risk in which case they already deemed him a year 1 bust.

Damn, I'm just glad to be hearing updates about our draft picks outside of Smith and Davenport.

Any updates on Kamrin Moore or Natrell Jamerson?

Not sure what they saw in him. Some had him going undrafted.

Even if he was rated as an UDFA on everyone else's draft board?

link to other teams' draft boards?

Leonard is in year 3 of playing OT. He was obviously drafted as a project. It's Aug 15. Imagine judging a guy like David Onyemata a few weeks into camp in his rookie year.

It takes time to bear fruit.

I think I heard Jeff Duncan say Moore has been injured and not been practicing a lot.

Glenn had a comment about Jamerson "watch out for him"... or something when asked about Jamerson. Jamerson is a near lock on roster imo due to versatility and special teams.

this board really seems to struggles with the fact that team's aren't using mel kiper's board in the draft room

It’s not Leonard’s fault. Most teams had a UDFA grade on him from what the draft gurus say

Most draft "gurus" had an undrafted grade. No one but the teams know what grade they had on him.

I'm a patient guy. I'm willing to let this play out. Teams aren't expecting 4th rounders to start year one (or even year two in most cases).

Being that he was a project pick this is a guy they took hoping to develop into a solid backup and potential spot starter over his first few years, with the hope he could develop into a fulltime starter down the road.
