Saints need to go get Calijah Kancey and Siaki Ika in the draft

Losing Onyemata really hurts us. He was so strong that he ate double teams to allow Cam to be the player he had turned out to be and it let Demario find the ball carrier untouched. That has to be replaced. I’m fine with Granderson replacing Davenport but we need that space eater that can push the pocket and that is Ika. He’s going to be a damn good pro. Calijah Kancey is likely to be gone at 29 but if he’s there you run to podium and take him. He’d be your 3 tech DT for a decade. I hope they have a plan to replace what we lost but I have no faith in DA.

move up to 20 via trade with SEA to get him.

I’d do it in a heartbeat. Package 29 and 40 for Kancey. He’s even smaller than Aaron Donald but his play on the field is undeniable. I’m afraid by draft day he’s going to be a top 10-12 pick. Saints were wise to not pay a DT at age 30 $12 mil a year though even as much as I love Onyemata and will hate seeing him in a Falcons uniform pushing Ruiz back in the picket into Carr’s face.

Nope.

He ain't worth trading away draft assets for. I know it's becoming like a broken record but at 29 I really see this year being a prime year to trade down and get more picks.

Ruiz improved this year no doubt but we have to replace Peat. I think Hurst would be a plug and play guy at LG and Penning at LT. Hurst’s natural position is guard but he played LT out of necessity.

I don’t think Ika is a system fit. Isn’t he more of a nose in a 3-4?

Can't move up to do it and Ika wont go that high. Could Kancey slide to 29? maybe, too many good players to go all in on one DT.

We have to get younger at every spot but maybe wr or cb.

Kobie Turner or Jacquelin Roy will be available in the 4th round. They could both be plug and play guys day 1.

Ika can play in a 3-4 and 4-3. He’s got great athleticism for his size that doesn’t just peg him as a 3-4 NT. He can play Onyemata’s role in our defense easily.

I’ve also seen Byron young going in the 4th in mocks. Senior guy with lots of experience that would be a solid pick in the 4th. But I’d like to move up some to make sure we get Roy.

yep... with our cap situation, and how there's not a lot separating prospects overall this year, so it's much more valuable to have more picks vs. a high pick, unless you are at 1 through 5 in the 1st round...

I think I get what you're trying to say, but put some respect on Cam's name here. Onyemata didn't have shite to do with "the player Cam turned out to be". Cam played 5 full seasons before they drafted O. Not to mention it took O a couple seasons to grow into the NFL. The entire line got a "boost" with the addition of Demario, Lat, and Williams shoring up everything behind them to give them time to actually rush. Cam was producing LONG before all that.
