Saints and Alvin Kamara are not far apart in negotiations, per source, as Kamara has not asked for Christian McCaffrey money. Saints were open to trading Kamara for a 1 in light of absence but things calmed down, sides continue talking.

Four teams inquired about Kamara today.

So, they were mad he was holding out and put the word out on the trade
He realized and is coming back to the table

I think they get a deal done

Another thing is, Sean Payton doesn't play
You sit out a few days and he is already calling trying to trade your arse

It's just the value of running backs. Kamara is 25. I'm in favor of paying him 12 mil.
Do people really have a problem with that?

10 is the most i’d pay. if Sean has shown us anything, it’s that he has a RB tree in his backyard.

You let him leave over 2 mil
That 2 mil is nothing

Now if its 4 or 5 mil a year difference than yeah
If you think he is a 10 mil player, then you think he is a 12 mil player, that simple

Kamara is worth way more to the Saints than he would be to any other team—his value is worth way more than simply his raw production numbers. But the Saints know this, and surely his people do too. All this the last week is just posturing. Considering just how short the NFL shelf-life is for a RB, AND just how well he fits into our particular offense, I think both sides come to an amicable agreement.

I don’t want to lose him—I’m not sure we can win the Super Bowl without him—and I know just how important he is to our particular offense beyond even his raw numbers. But because how unique he is, I’m not even convinced he could fetch 10+ per on the open market. Both sides are aware and will eventually wind up agreeing on something around 12. It’s in both sides’ best interests to work something out before the season begins.

Anyone who’d pay $50 for a cab would certainly pay $75.

If you think he’s a $12 mil player then you think he’s a $14 mil, that simple. And if he’s a $14 mil.... See the problem with your logic?

Personally I think he may have studied what Bell did and how it's turned out for him. He got his money but now he's on a bad team with a coach that doesn't really want him. I know they want to be compensated but there's other things to consider as well

Like I said yesterday...if we can pay Hill $21mil, we can certainly pay Kamara $12mil.

What? You are comparing 1 year to a multi year deal. That’s not how this works.

Kamara deal is not done in a vacuum. You have a lot of great players coming due. 2 million may be the difference in keeping Marcus Williams.

With negotiating skills like that, I'm shocked you don't work for the Saints

While somewhat true, there are backs like Spiller who just sucked it up. AK41 may be a system back, who knows, but I think he is the most dynamic RB in the CSP era. His ability to line up as a WR is worth paying him a little extra IMO.

Wish we did this with Drew when he asked for more money.

Sean Payton made Drews career

If Sean makes Taysom Hill into a starter QB it proves Drew is a system QB

remember Sean Payton is 8-1 when Drew is not the starter, the one loss is a week 17 game where we didn't try to win

This is a lazy take. Remember trying to make it work with Cadet and Spiller?
The way Payton uses the “versatile RB” in his offense, without a truly unique talent there comes a severe hiccup in how the offense “purrs” vs stalling out.
The offense is better and the defense is better when we can put together 3 or 4 8-10 play drives per game.

RB Alvin Kamara and coach Sean Payton had a nice talk this morning, clearing the air. Kamara is expected back at practice today and the two sides will keep working at making sure he’s there long-term.

You don't get the point I'm making
You don't let an elite player walk over 2mil
Aren't you the idiot who says he has inside info and is continuously wrong

What are the chances that we sign him to a friendly deal say in the 13 million range but it is still more than we want to pay, but he is easier to trade because the new team already has a deal in place.

That is what I would like to do.

If you are trading for Kamara it is much more desirable to already know what that contract will cost you in the future.

If you trade for him know then you are still having to give him a new deal.
