Werner is a good LB. He isn't Davis, but we have had some terrible LBs here recently, so I am not against this.

No, if anything it will increase his 2024 cap. His current cap, before extension, was $1.8M. With these extensions, there is usually a bonus that Loomis will spread from 2024 - 2028, giving Werner 1 void year in 2028.

This deal is an extension. Starts next year. Same Cap hit for 2024.

Should have said could instead of would; but if there was a bonus included that was paid out when he signed that extension, 20-25% of that bonus will hit the 2024 cap.

As long as Loomis is around, there is always enough cap space (not sure whether to
or 
) Spotrac shows they have about $8M in cap space, OTC shows they have $11.8M. Loomis can throw a big bonus at him to spread that over 5 years, then give him moderate salary with some guarantees. Or, he can maneuver some other contracts around to make space.
Not advocating for it, and while I would be excited to have Simmons on the team; I much rather them start working to fix the cap.

I can't imagine a big contract given out. Maybe guarantee the whole thing. 10-15 mil 2 years? I have no clue anymore. It seems to always look like too much or too little.

I am glad he was resigned. LB position has no depth going into next year. I don't think this team has much depth this year too.

Good risk-reward deal. If Werner can be a solid starting LB that contract is a steal. He doesn’t need to be an all pro, just solid and healthy which he isn’t right now.
