There has been progress recently in conversations between the Saints and Mike Thomas on a contract extension, according to sources. Not done yet, but talks are productive.

Better be incentive laden as shite and easy to get out of if his body continues to break down.

I guess it’s good considering he doesn’t have to be the goto receiver anymore. MT, Olave, and Shaheed is a pretty solid starting WR group.

Good news.

When mt is right, he helps this team win.

I think being a #1 WR makes him the goto and it will make all the other WR's better.

I’m honestly surprised this situation is going to likely resolve this way but it makes a ton so sense for Thomas to stay with the Saints and get healthy. He was looking at likely 1 year, prove it deals in free agency.

I'd like him to play for us, but does he really want to play or collect a check?

I seriously doubt he’s going to get more targets than Olave (who’s more than likely going to be the #1 receiver moving forward). Perhaps more than Shaheed but why give a ton of targets to a guy who’s been hurt for the past several years?

Because when he’s healthy he is a top 5 receiver in the league

Thomas helped recruit Carr to the Saints. He’s definitely going to be a Saint next year.

You frickers keep hating MT, but the guy has only ever wanted to be a Saint. He loves this team and the fans. He could have easily wanted out like Cooks, Graham and others, but he’s always been true to the black and gold. Say what you want about MT, but I have nothing but respect for the man. Hopefully he remains healthy this year and helps us win football games.

That was a LONG time ago. He’s not better than Devontae, Hill, chase, Jefferson, kupp, Diggs, St. Brown at this point. 30+ with 3 straight very short and unproductive seasons isn’t a recipe for getting back near the top.

Thomas didnt have to Help, but he did. Carr fan or not openly recruiting is a great sign to see where his head is at

At 30 years old and functionally three missed seasons, he’s almost certainly not close to that anymore - and I still hope the saints can make a deal work for him.

We have massive needs at DT, DE, Safety, RB and potentially LB and TE depending on free agency.

If we can improve our cap situation and retain Thomas by redoing his contract it’s a no brainer. Saints need some things to go there way this season and hopefully Thomas being healthy is one of those things. Even if Thomas has lost a step, Olave Thomas, Shaheed with Johnson and Kamara is a decent group of pass catchers for Carr to roll with and likely the best we can do absent spending a high pick on a WR.

He’s a great WR. There’s no doubt about that. I just wouldn’t overload a guy with a ton of targets when he’s hasn’t stayed healthy in years. I’m just saying I would decrease his workload in to keep him healthy throughout the season.

Would give this bum the league minimum and pay him game by game per down. He's a bum

I don't think we know that right now. He's played in 10 games over the last 3 seasons combined. He has ~600 yards receiving and 3 TDs in that span. Yes, he was an absolute stud his first 4 seasons in the league, but we can't assume he's going to be the same player after the injuries and time lapsed.

That said, I don't mind the Saints extending him, if it makes sense for the Saints. I don't do all the poli mumbo jumbo, it's if the Saints think he can recover and produce vs. cost.

He’s a very good WR if he can stay healthy. All the guys I mentioned had stretches equivalent to that or better, are younger, and haven’t missed almost 3 years. It’s not a knock on him. I don’t know if any player in nfl history missed that kind of time and then was truly a top 5 player at their position afterwards. Hell it’s hard enough to name guys who missed essentially 3 straight years and were then even productive again.
