McCain (6-5, 224), who played outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme, left Cal after his junior season after being dismissed for conduct detrimental to the team in late September. He played in three games last season and had 11 tackles and a forced fumble. He was an honorable mention All-Pac 12 selection as a sophomore when he had 3.5 sacks.
