Victimization is the ultimate sociopolitical currency of black Americans. Its value increases faster than the S&P 500 as the demand for racism continues to outpace the supply.

Sad to see such a promising young coach take that route.

That's the word on the streets. Also that he refused to meet with Watson since it'd be considered tampering.

I thought I read the owner wanted him to recruit Brady when he became free and he didn’t want. He wanted Watson.

But he just completed 2 consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2003. So clearly, that’s not all that matters.

Going to piss off both sides of the aisle, but no its not all that matters. It's one of the reasons I don't heap the amount of praise on Payton that everyone seems to.

You can coach 5 consecutive years and have a record of 75-5. Should that coach be fired? Record says no but what if those 75 wins were regular season and he lost every playoff game.

Records don't necessarily mean Squat, alot of times it's how you present yourself in an interview. I don't know Brian Flores but it's just screwed up that you are allowed to sue someone because you wasn't the guy they wanted to hire, but they HAD to interview you or someone else of color because of a rule that a group of people pushed so that people of your color would be given obligatory interviews.

Some of these comments justify having these types of rules/provisions.

Why would he want Watson (who has a ton of his own baggage) over a then-6x Super Bowl champion (who, as it turned out, had yet another one left in him)?

Sounds a tad racist to me.

The numbers of Black coaches will fluctuate naturally throughout the league in a true meritocracy. Just because there were low numbers this season doesn't necessarily indicate 'systemic racism'.

There were 7 Black head coaches in the NFL in 2017; thats nearly 25 percent of the league despite only making up 13 percent of the general population.

So please help me understand the 'systemic racism' of Brian Flores having to 'endure' a meal on the Giants dime and why we should see him as a victim.

It was set up so these teams would interview Black guys so that NFL front offices would see guys that they were not interviewing before the

I guess teams should be obligated to tryout at least one white cornerback too.

Rooney rule is a token interview. No NFL owner is prioritizing skin color over making money. Winning makes money, winning coaches get hired.

I hate to break it to you but not every NFL owner cares about winning.

If black males make up 6-7% of the population, but they make up 70% of the roster, why is this not an equity issue as well? It’s only racist when it suits their needs. We will be told that it’s different, but why? Not one national sportswriter would dare criticize the nfl or nba for inequity in the racial makeup of the teams, because they would somehow be then labeled as racists as well. Just like no team should be forced to hire any player based on their race, the same standards should apply to coaches and management as well. The best candidate for the position should be the one who is hired, period.

I had a black acquaintance once tell me the Patriots were racist because of how many white players they had. I laughed and asked him if 30% white is too much white.

ETA: This on all of the post above me by the way

So you're saying white kids in highschool and college aren't getting the opportunity to earn their way to NFL thru training and hard work... along with genetics.

Hmm I never thought of it that way. That's a shame.

PRINT THE SHRITS. What a victory for black people. You guys could be TRULY in the running NEXT time.

Do you not understand that the Rooney rule makes the NFL teams interview people that would not get an interview. Therefore they get into the system and minds of the front office. If the Giants Hire a White Guy (capitalized) before they interviewed the Black Guy (Capitalized) they had their guy. The interview whether it took place before or after they new who they wanted does not matter. It's the process that moves the needle forward for Black Coaches.

I wish we could just call them all coaches or the best coach for the job. But Affirmative Action will not allow this to happen.

1963 Bill Cosby was introduced on the Jack Parr show as Comedian Bill Cosby. He was literally the first Black comedian to be on a National show. If that happend today he would be introduced as first Black Comedian.

This all day long. Until we just recognize people as men and women instead of PLACE RACE HERE man or woman, there is no real progress.

Also, why do you keep capitalizing black? Do you do that with white?

Because that's the way it's recognized now. Black in terms of a race is now capitalized. It's even being taught at Grambling and other universities.
