I personally think that was well said by Rob Ryan

He gave Roman Harper too much credit. He was a leader. But that was it. And honestly, in 2013, Malcolm Jenkins was good. Like really good. Him and Vaccaro worked well together.
Losing him, Gallete and a number of other pieces hurt us bad. And I agree with him on why we changed schemes when we were a top 10 D in 2013? Still, he isn't blameless. He still called the shite and was responsible for how shitty the guys were lining up and looked lost. Stupid dumbass penalties too. That's on him, not SP. it was a total frick up all around.

The 3 safety combination of Bush, Vaccaro, and Jenkins took the secondary over the top. For as much shite as Corey White gets, the defense did not fall off after he took over Greer's spot in 2013. The secondary forced QBs to hold the ball longer, generating coverage sacks - the case for the majority of pressure the line put on QBs in 2013.
Harper and Jenkins, without Vaccaro, had their best game of the season in the Seattle playoff game.
And then we sigend Byrd.

Jenkins was awful. He literally had one of the worst tackling rates of all time.

Sad that it took Byrd being hurt all the time to make us appreciate that.

Why? They had good years in 2013.

"In 2013 ... the defense was ballin'," the former Saints defender said. "And we get back the next year and Sean has his hand in it, trying to call defenses and doing stuff that we don't really do. ... It really messed up how we played." The player added: "Rob needs a little discipline, but at the same time, I think Sean and (assistant coach/linebackers) Joe Vitt had their hands entirely too much in how the defense was ran."

I believe this.
After the GW affair CSP stated he would never let the DC run things on their own. I can see where he might over compensate.

I don't really see that as talking shite. It's more the Saints made a string of horrible personnel decisions and Rob Ryan paid the price
Boom

I don't really disagree with anything he said. There is a pattern here and he's just the latest coach to be ousted.
I could see Payton being arrogant enough to try and implement a defense that bested him.
trouble is signing a ballhawk safety won't do much if the system you are trying to copy doesn't add up.

So basically confirming what we all know to be true about Payton, his crossfit mafia, and his unwillingness to let someone have complete control over the defense.
That's not talking shite, it's just telling the truth. Some of us around here have been saying this about Payton for a while now.
The last guy who had complete and total control over the defense won us a superbowl and the Goodell butt fricked this franchise into the ground.
this is the story in a nutshell

For what it's worth, Akiem Hicks agrees with Ryan, stating that the HC wanted a Seahawks style secondary.

Rob Ryan blasted the New Orleans Saints and his former boss Sean Payton last week, saying he was effectively neutered and forced to run a defense he didn't agree with. Payton responded that Ryan's claims were "silly."
Former Saints defensive lineman Akiem Hicks backed the coordinator over the head coach in this superfluous spat.
quote:
"Not to talk about New Orleans for the rest of this interview, but as a player in that system, you can see when power is taken away from a guy," Hicks, now with the Chicago Bears, told reporters Wednesday, via ESPN.com. "It was evident in that situation and you saw what the turnout was because of it."
Ryan told The MMQB he was forced to play a three-deep, Seattle Seahawks-style defense after the team signed Jairus Byrd in 2014. The Saints owned one of the worst defenses in the NFL the next two seasons under Ryan.
Hicks believes Ryan was not only forced to play a different defense, but had his personality stifled in New Orleans.
"I didn't see the interview, but I do know this: I'll forever and always have a lot of love for Rob Ryan, just because there's nobody that's going to shoot you straighter," Hicks said. "He's going to tell you how it is, he's going to tell you how he feels, and you're always going to understand his perspective on things, and I feel like that was taken away."

Rob Ryan has been fantastically unsuccessful and fired from every job he's ever had, but right, this is all Payton's fault.
The real blame for Payton is hiring him in the first place

What did he say about what happened in Dallas? Actually curious.

I mean I get it. You want to try and copy from the best but putting one high price player back there at safety won't solve everything. I drank the Kool Aid big time cause the Saints had a pretty good D in 2013 and adding a player like Byrd appeared to be a top notch signing. It hasn't worked out that way yet and most likely won't. I think his best years are behind him I just hope he can stay healthy at this point and maybe thrive more in a new defense that hopefully has a different attitude/confidence in 2016.
