Unfortunately long term it can’t be with the Saints because of his connection with the team.

This guy knows football and how to be the head guy without stifling the coordinators.

That’s a weird take considering we hired Dennis Allen

We'll see.

Everyone was so hyped around antonio pierce's first year with the Raiders. These types of hires can fade really quick.

Not really considering Mickey will over correct for missing in Allen and let another great HC leave the building like he did with Campbell. Terrible judge of talent. Change my mind.

You’ve reached this definitive conclusion based on one game? Some of you with these prisoner of the moment takes are ridiculous.

I knew this shite would start.

Please Saints for the love of God do an actual coaching search and hire the best coach available. Don’t just take the interim label off of the special teams coach.

We don’t need any more lazy, knee-jerk decisions that will set the franchise back another 5-7 years.

I’m fine with Rizzi as long as we do an actual search as well. If he’s the best candidate, then so be it. At least we would be hiring a guy that players respect and want to play for.

I still want to throw the house at Ben Johnson however. I like Vrabel as well

He didn't let Campbell go. We had no HC position to offer him at the time.

If Rizzi is the guy, I'd want to bring in a DC that can come in with new blood and ideas rather than our DA leftovers. Ideally someone like Saleh who has some degree of HC experience to help and be the assistant HC. Leaving alone the OC

Considering the fact that people have provided you with countless facts to dispute this statement

let another great HC leave the building like he did with Campbell.

and you still won't "change your mind" here, why bother trying to dissect Rizzi's future from 1 game?

I will say this about Rizzi. I think what gets a lot of HCs in trouble is they refuse to let go of "their baby", whether it's they need to call the offensive or defensive plays. There are many that can handle running their side of the ball, while having a trusted coordinator on the other side run that side of the ball. But there are a lot more that cannot either separate from having total control; or the responsibilities of being the HC is too much, and their side of the ball suffers. As a ST coordinator, you should not see that, and he would be more likely to rely on his coordinators to run their respective sides of the ball. If he surrounds himself with a great team, he could be very successful. But he has to make sure he doesn't fall into the "hire my friends" trap, and he needs to closely evaluate his staff to know who he's trusting his future with.

Assuming the Saints play well for him the rest of the season like they did Sunday I would have no problem hiring Rizzi as long as it was with a short leash and we fire him in 2-3 years if it doesn't work out and the cap situation is fixed and ready to make a run. Obviously I would rather have BJ or Vrabel but they will both be offered better job than the Saints.

This place is so over-reactionary

Holy frickin cliche salad, there’s absolutely zero way you could know this from outside the building, and especially after only one game. Give it some time.

It's the typical, let me make an outlandish post early and if I am correct, I can pull it up ad nauseum to show how smart I am. If I am wrong, no one will remember and it will get buried in the dark corners of TD

With all due respect I don’t think it’s that. At least not in this case.

It’s just comments like this that get under my skin:

There’s absolutely ZERO way that guy knows how rizzi handles his coordinators. None. And assuming that he ‘knows football’ after one game is a crazy thing to be sure of. It’s only one game

(I'm not pro hiring Rizzi, but...)

The case for culture mattering in a team's success:

Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn are my top two right now.

Vrabel would probably be good too. He would change the culture and toughen up the team.

He'll make a great coach at Johnny Bright playground. Can coach 110 traveling teams and drink cocktails with single moms at Mo's Chalet
