BLM only matters when it's race on race. They do nothing to control same race violence. This is senseless and uncalled for and unfortunately is beyond the control of anyone. Sadly this guy will probably claim self defense because big will threatened him or something like that. As a community , we are more worried about a statue then homicides.

I love New Orleans, my grand parents have lived down there for nearly 20 years now since moving from North La., so I'm always down there a few times a year. I brag to people about how laid back and easy going the city is. People say negative things about the city and I take up for it as if I was born and raised there. I just don't think I can do it anymore. This is beyond sad and depressing and shite needs to change. It's fricking embarrassing on a national level to have a guy that fights to make NOLA better along with many other things, get gunned down over something so petty and ridiculous. I'm done.
RIP, Will
born and raised in NOLA. i'm in NYC right now. my family all still lives in NOLA. i want to move back, and it's senseless stuff like this keeping me away. it's so sad when someone is putting his money back into the community and helping make a change and this happens. NOLA is losing too many good people.

Unfortunately, incidents like this one (based upon the facts that we know) can occur almost anywhere. It is not New Orleans specific.

I was born and raised in New Orleans but have not lived there now for more than half my life, although my parents and other family still do. I always miss New Orleans, pull so hard for the City and always speak so highly of it and growing up there. Think about what it would be like to move back, bring kids to Mardi Gras, etc...
AND then shite like this ALWAYS happens. If it's not Will Smith, it's someone else on a parade route, or walking around the French Quarter or drug related violence. Can't do it anymore.
Rest in peace Will Smith. Prayers for him and the City of New Orleans.

The only question will be if these types of programs/classes will actually be installed anytime soon.
Not just the black community.
We'd rather punish than rehabilitate.
We'd rather force law-abiding with the threat of police intervention than teach skills to avoid crime in the first place.
Obviously, punishment and police intervention are necessary in this society; but the emphasis has moved too much onto them.
We should try to build better people instead of crushing the ones we don't like.
I think this is related to the loss of the value of life in this city I mentioned earlier.
I don't know. My two cents.

sadly it happens more frequently in NOLA or at the very least frequently enough that it scares people away. i don't want to get into this debate in this thread, though. regardless, change needs to happen, and it begins with better education.

I made a thread in the ot....I believe this was a hit job gone wrong.

This is horrible. People that can senselessly kill others don't deserve to live.

Yep.. Will and Pierre were at dinner with a NOPD cop. That cop had shot the shooters father a few years back.

I agree with everything you said
I think this is probably the most important point you brought up, and this is a major reason we aren't really evolving as a society. It's quite the task to accomplish. Hell, it may very well be the hardest one to do.

Has this been confirmed?? If so then this is premeditated Murder 1. Can't just be a coincidence.

Circumstances of Will Smith murder suggest possible motive other than road rage
Mike Florio 5 hours ago Categories: Home, New Orleans Saints, Rumor Mill Tags: FA, Pierre Thomas
Regardless of why Cardell Hayes shot and killed former Saints defensive end Will Smith, the fact remains that Hayes apparently did it. The motive may be a little murkier than first believed.
Dubbed an incident of road rage at first, the New Orleans Advocate points out that Hayes sued the City of New Orleans in 2005 after police officers killed his father. Shortly before the automobile accident that resulted in Hayes shooting Smith and his wife, Smith and former Saints teammate Pierre Thomas had eaten dinner with Billy Ceravolo, one of the officers who shot Anthony Hayes and who was personally sued by Cardell Hayes.

If there was any proof that more regulation would work I would be for it but then again is it not illegal to murder someone?
Just like the statues what exactly will removing them do to improve the city? Not much it won't help fix the biggest problem which is violencd

This is truly sad.
We don't need gun control, we need ammunition control. Stop making bullets and all those illegal weapons are useless.

Apparently Cardell was also a Saints security guard at one time, not sure if that was already posted.
Could explain why Smith was targeted and how they are connected:

Will Smith's death may not have been a random act, Cardell Hayes apparently did security for saints. NOPD is holding a presser at 1:15
