So Delvin is a RFA. Probably wants to go somewhere for bigger money and possibly more playing time. Can't imagine he's overly enthused with saints organization after last year.

Getting past that, he's a good player and valuable commodity.

His tender options are copied below:
Which tender do you want to choose?
First Round Tender: $4,152,000
Second Round Tender: $2,916,000
Original Round Tender: $1,908,000

If we Original Round tender, does that mean we risk losing him for nothing if we decline to match an offer? I would like him back but understand circumstances if we end up trading him away for some value. Think we need to 2nd round tender him just to protect our options.

Not worth it. Let him walk. Get Better CBs in the draft.

We can do both. No reason not to offer him the lowest tender and at least have the option to match. That little money won't hurt us

The more depth we have at corner, the better. That's a cheap option with little risk for a potential starting caliber player

Original Tender if he's running and still has fluid movement. They know best where he's at and his prognosis going forward.

I like the idea of a second round tender considering we don't have a second round pick this year. Adds to the upside calculus.

i think a 2nd round is kind of high to realistically receive if we traded. I can see the Saints accepting a 3rd.

What am I forgetting?

Oh right, the misdiagnosis.

It would be foolish not to tender him at a 2nd round offer. Healthy he is worth every bit of that, and teams around the league know that. Perhaps we can attract someone interested in parting ways with their 2nd or other compensation. Locking him in with that tender makes that possible.

2nd round tender

Starting-caliber player and even that first round tender isn't that much money. Totally worth it. Imagine if he had a fully healthy season with what we already have at CB. No-brainer.

Nobody is giving a 3rd for Breaux. Saints would accept less.

That 2nd rounder tender would have made him around the 42nd highest paid CB this year. I think that is a fairly decent price with the potential upside.

True.

They discovered he has a case of Ellerbe-itis.

2nd. Keep him. It's cheap. we need 3/4 starting caliber CBs to make it through the year. Figure you'll lose a few at various points.

Plus we now have an extra CB with size to put on the good TEs we will face.

2nd

He is a starting caliber CB in this league when healthy and that goes for a lot more than that tenders annual value.

We either need pick compensation or we need to see if Breaux in a contract year can make some noise for the Saints.

I certainly still want him on the team, even if it's fighting for the nickel spot. I wasn't overly impressed with Williams full body of work even though he did well at times. Behind Crawley/Lattimore it's not like anyone else can't be beat out for a job.

I'm surprised so many people in the thread are cool letting him go. I think he could easily come back and compete with Crawley for the starter's job, but even if he loses that battle he'd be a damned good backup to have on the bench. Lattimore did miss a few games, let's remember.

We all know how hard it is to find good corners since it took us years (and an incredibly lucky fall in the draft) to find our current crop. I'm shocked at how often people on this board say "we'll just draft a better replacement"... so how come we drafted so many bad secondary players over the years if it's that simple?
