We were trying to trade for Russ last year and were considered the front runners for Watson before he was traded to the Browns.

We are barely committed to him after this season, so just remember the Saints knew what we know: Jameis is not the answer.

Once the Watson fiasco disintegrated I think it was common knowledge that Winston was just a stopgap measure until the team could find a permanent replacement or he could prove he could be more consistent.

Hopefully we deal with Jameis and Carmichael for 10 more games. They both need the boot

We can cut him next year with a $11M cap hit. We are already $60M in the hole without that move and have far less levers to pull than we did this season.

If we had our first round pick, it might make sense to just decide to draft a QB and cut Jameis and make it work. But without a cheap option available, we might as well just pay him and ride it out until 2024

FA group next year looks pretty bad:

Lamar Jackson
Baker Mayfield
Sam Darnold
Jimmy Garoppolo
Teddy Bridgewater
Daniel Jones
Case Keenum
Mason Rudolph
Jacoby Brissett
Taylor Heinicke
Nick Mullens
Drew Lock
Cooper Rush
Tyler Huntley

You go with a Andy Dalton and Taysom dual threat QB tandem and hit the reset button on rebuilding and retooling the cap and future of the franchise.

I would maybe give Daniel Jones a try. Maybe Teddy if we are looking for a game manager, but his value tanked after his stint in Denver.

Mason Rudolph, Cooper Rush or Tyler Huntley could have some upside, but damn, you don't want to count on any of them as a starter.

We can only hope for the short term that CSP gets the coaching itch soon and we then have some chips to push in the pot.

Hell if we can just get JW and Pete to play at last years early season level it could be OK.

FWIW play around the league so far is mostly bad.

Pretty much this, maybe even bring in another vet at he $3-5 range to compete with Dalton. Can't fault them for trying to go all in to see if they can make a push with this defense, but unless the offense makes some major strides next year needs to be a cap reset year so the team isn't constantly mortgaging the future for a chance to make the playoffs this year.

Which makes it even more puzzling that Loomis chose to trade away a 1st in 2023 and a 2nd in 2024 for a mid-1st round pick in an average to below average draft when 2023 may be one of the better QB drafts in a while.

Payton will coach next year and we will get a first.

Because Loomis and the other powers that be thought we were set for the playoffs and the 1st rounder sent to Philly would not end up being a Top 3 and franchise QB pick.

No but if Payton wanted to coach Miami this year, Im pretty sure hell coach a team next year. And there is no doubt hes worth a first.

Maybe we shouldn’t have given Philly our first next year…. We can always overpay Lamar next year too…

Exactly

Seems like a solid QB draft too
