I'm curious how big Terry Bradshaw's hands are. He seems like he'd be high on the list.

then why not gamble on it?

Also, you do know that GMs lose their jobs for taking risks like that? Dave Gettleman (Giants) & Ryan Pace (Bears) recently lost their jobs for taking such risks on Mitch Trubisky & Daniel Jones. And despite all the positives John Lynch has done in San Francisco, he too will lose his job if Trey Lance doesn't pan out because not only did the 49ers take Lance high the draft, they traded up to get him. Don't forget Lynch also traded up in 2017 to get Reuben Foster who they had to cut & turned into a huge bust as well.

Lol dont be so condescending

You took that part completely out of context. The original point was in favor of Pickett and that if his one negative trait is that he has small hands then I think most teams will take that risk

I was very vocal about it not being an issue with Burrow

But part of that argument was that there is probably a threshold. If your hand is big enough to grip x way around the football you’re probably fine.

But what’s that threshold? I dont Consider myself to have big hands and I can Get my hand to 9 inches. Sub 8 isn’t small for a Qb is just small

Taysom hill deep balls are what happens when you have very small hands. It’s not so much fumbles, though that is important too. It’s controlling the football at all levels as a thrower.

It’s why none of these sub 9” guys are regular starters

Maybe Pickett can break that trend. I’m certainly not gambling on it in the first round though.

Is he that good or was he just a 5th year guy, older than everyone(24 in June) else in the same system for 3 years? Why was he just average the rest of his career? I haven’t burned his tape but he has some immediate red flags

Take a look at his tape and tell us all about his troubles throwing the ball at all levels. I didn’t see anything. Have you even watched him at all?

Why do they have that goofy formation under each QB. Just looks odd and out of place.

He started 3 years prior to this year & was a nobody.

Burrow was a nobody too. Should we discount his final year and only count his first year starting?

And you still haven’t actually watched him play yet you’re shitting all over him

Burrow sat behind the best QB in Ohio st history, and then another 1st rd pick

He didn’t start for 3 years and not improve.

I haven’t shitted on him at all. If his hands are 8.25 that is going to be an issue. That is a fairly universal take. That is how evaluations start.

I'm not buying that's why taysom's deep balls are bad. It's more than just hand size.

Burrow has 9" hands and throws a beautiful ball

If I'm not mistaken you questioned burrow's hand size before that draft.

And the saints would've picked him if they didn't.

Never going to bat 100 in the draft.

I think they might go with pederson to help with the drafting of a qb.

It only came into question when being labeled the “best QB prospect ever”.

I’ve been pro burrow when people were calling him Danny Etling in 2018.

Nope; it’s definitely his hands. He can throw darts on shorter routes. He can’t get on top of the ball when throwing deep.

Absurd. Zero data to support this. Grip strength has nothing to do with hand size. Vick had 8.5” hands and had no issue slinging the ball 60+ yards. Taysom hill just sucks at throwing deep balls. It has absolutely nothing to do with his hand size.

True but you don't ignore serious red flags either as Foster was a perfect example of that. But it wasn't JUST that Lynch took a gamble, he traded up to do. Same goes for Trey Lance.

quote:

The 49ers moved up to No. 3 overall to select Trey Lance. The price tag for such a decision included first-round picks in the 2022 and ’23 NFL Drafts, as well as a third-round selection in 2022.

Grip strength on a football? Sure it does

General grip strength? No

Right. He just happens to under throw every one. He just isn’t strong enough I guess

You should know by now there are always going to be posters who try to discredit actual facts like this every draft season. It's like clockwork.

Yea I mean I have nothing against the guy. 1st round you are looking to be risk averse. I’m just not sure he outstanding enough in other areas to take that gamble on.

Compared to a guy like say Kyler Murray, who broke QB size barriers. He had other traits that were worth gambling on.
