Fans fall in love prospects every year around this time. Some of them get to the point where it becomes an obsession & no one else can post anything critical of said player no matter if it is indeed a fact.

But is correlation causation?
There are very few shirt QBs and generally people 6’ and taller have hand bigger than 9”.
Like I said, I have 9 inch hands and I dont Consider my hands very big.
So is the fact that there aren’t any good QBs with small hands because of their small hands or jsut because the sample pool of guys who can play QB and have small hands is small.
If it is something that directly causes issues, what is the threshold?
Obviously children can’t grub a football. Can this guy?

Lester mentioned throwing a wet ball but small hands for a QB also become an issue for ball security both in & out the pocket. QBs with small hands simply cannot hold on to the ball with defenders swiping at in the pocket in comparison to QBs with bigger hands.

If you want that to be your theory, that’s fine. But why is the pool small has to be your next question. It’s hard to play QB at a high level with tiny hands, perhaps? Those guys are not even playing the position in the first place?
Even with the data we have, I lean toward it being more evolutionary than anything. It’s not really a this-or-that.

Fumble rate data shows this to be simply untrue. Favre had huge hands and fumbled more than anyone in NFL history. Kyler Murray had the smallest hands in his draft class and the lowest fumble rate.

It starts with the recruiting process coming out of high school. It's the same thing concerning height. Those guys tend to get weeded out in that process. Not too many programs are willing to overlook those physical factors.
I'll use Drew Brees & Baker Mayfield as examples. Despite what both did in the landscape of high school football in Texas, both struggled getting P5 scholarship offers. It wasn’t because they weren't good QBs. It was due to their height. Look at where both ended up at. Brees at Purdue & Baker at Texas Tech.
Kyler Murray was different due to the other physical attributes he brought to the table. His speed, rocket arm & accuracy for a high school prospect was hard to ignore so it made programs have to look past his height.
The same thing is going to have to happen with Kenny Pickett concerning his really small hands. His tape, interviews & physical workouts are going to have to heavily produce more pros than cons to justify his lack of prior production in the previous seasons & his really small hands.

Cool. He still fumbles far less than guys with bigger hands than him. If there was any correlation, you should see fumble rate increase as hand size decreases. The data simply does not show it to be true

well he had 0 lost fumbles this year correct? he obviously grew bigger hands in offseason.

But they have pioneered an era for smaller QBs to be taken more seriously, and that has proven to be a non issue for the most part.
