$20 mil and some draft picks ought to do

Don't do this. We need more picks to turn this roster over. Not give up picks.

We should've just done this to begin with and not wasted an early second rounder on a QB who likely is a one year place holder.

Let Rattler start and learn from the vet backup. We likely lose and land top 3 and get our franchise QB next April. Was the obvious path, but the Saints are the Saints..

No we don't. He is the new coaches handpicked selection. I'm giving him a chance because Coach Moore did also.

QB is probably too young for what you’d like in Camp.

------------------------------------------------------------

The Saints have 3 coaches that played in the NFL, I think they have the experience

However, if you want to go with a veteran backup, is Ryan Tannehill still out there ? Wentz seems like a choice too

Jesus fricking Christ. Fun is talking about bringing one in to have in the QB room and help mentor. It wouldn’t be the starter. Most in this thread cannot understand this. The young guys will still play. The vet is to help with development

Don't spend any money on a QB that isn't going to be the man. I'd rather ride with what we have.

Yes he has the chosen QB by Moore, among the available QBs, in a terrible QB draft. Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

When Moore took the job and went over the roster with Loomis, they obviously agreed we didn't have a NFL caliber QB on the roster. They didn't have cap space to get one. So their only option was drafting one. Cam Ward wasn't an option, so they got to choose from Dart, Sanders and Shough.

If Dart would've been there at 40, he would've likely been the pick but wasn't available. So who was left?

A smart kid, with 7 years of college experience, who had good intangibles but didn't preform well in college, or an ego-maniac who thinks he's the hottest thing since his dad and had the worst interviews in the modern draft era, but put up big numbers in college.

It's obvious Shough was the one to choose. It doesn't mean they are in love with as a prospect and see him as the future. It just means they were between a rock and a hard place and felt they made the best available choice, with the options they had.

Why is this getting downvoted to oblivion? It’s fairly obvious a veteran backup is needed in camp.

Normally I agree but the HC is basically the same age as that veteran you round bring in and he’s a former QB. He can work with the young guys we have and mentor them

The HC has a lot of responsibilities to be spending THAT much time with them vs just signing a good mentor vet. There’s no downside.

With the coaches we have we don't need a vet mentor type. Moore alone is exactly that.

Plus we released the vet we had, so it obviously wasn't viewed as a need to have a vet just to have a vet.

If we get someone, it will be because we don't think Shough is close to ready, and it will be someone that can actually win, not a vet clipboard holder.

The practice squad QB that wasn’t signed under Moore?

HC cant sit there on the sidelines and talk to our QBs after each series and help him breakdown the coverages. I dont really get not wanting this. what is the downside?

frick, we even got cap space.

eta: i mean are people really saying, "nah we dont want whats best to set our rookie up for success. frick it. throw him out there with whatever we got"

It's horribly weak. I think we look to a trade first. Then if a no go maybe pick up a body then look to the cuts at camp.

Correct. I’m not talking about bringing in CJ Beathard or TeddyTwoGloves to start
