The Saints' roster and salary cap situation is so messy that I would be happy with whoever is deemed to be the best available player at a high-value position, with "lowest bust factor" as a tiebreaker. I would be OK with Campbell if he is available, but are we ready to move on from Penning at RT? The DL pool in this draft is supposed to be very deep, so I would also be happy there. I don't see a QB at 9 that is worth it, so no. Is there a DB likely available at 9 that would make sense? I ask because I know there are plenty on here who follow this more than I do.

In short, we need as many can't miss starters on rookie contracts as we can get. Maybe we trade down?

Pick #9 should be a trade back to acquire a first next year as well.

Pretty sure if they traded back into mid teens, they could get a 1 next year.

I’d do that.

It also drives me nuts using late round picks on players that have less than zero chance on making the roster. Trade those picks for picks next year and move up a round.

Stop wasting draft picks.

Stop trading up for any player that is not a franchise QB.

I would love to think blueboxer has the ear of the Saints' brass. If you have a nearly complete roster and a really good team, trading up and taking chances with lower picks can work, but we need as may contributors as possible and on the cheap.

I looked, I'm wondering if Houston, Pittsburgh, green bay, Minnesota, Washington, or Seattle would push if someone they were enamored with falls.

Late teens to mid 20s pick. Is the only caveat, but value is wide enough to ask for a future 1st, this year's 2nd, and throw them a bone with a late 3rd to offset value.

Agreed and when the Saints were worth watching, our o-line was usually one of the best in the league.

I would say the guard positions are worse off than tackle.

Is this dude really that good? Admittedly haven’t watched him play a bunch but i know he’s a bigger wr.

How many teams in the playoffs drafted a wr in the top 10? 2 out of the 14. The Vikings are the only other team who drafted a wr in the first round and that is Jefferson and Addison. Tet McMillan isn’t a generational player. You don’t take a wideout that early unless they are. This is the weakest wr class in a very long time. WR is a need but def not even in the top 4 needs. It’s an easy pass on him for me.

requires a dance partner, but yes, this would be ideal.

at one point, this was a talented roster. thus, very few roster spots were "open". however, this is not the case now. every pick matters for at least two years, if not three.

I think with all the needs you can take a year where a lot isn’t expected anyway and see how Penning does at RT for another year.

How many spots do we really have like that at this point though.

I want to trade down and get a second 2nd round pick this year.

The 2nd round is ripe for picking a LG like Wyatt Milum or Grey Zabel. If you can trade down to mid teens, you can get a DE or DT in the first, grab the LG with 40 and take whichever DT or DE is left with the second 2nd round pick. Get a backup center in the 4th, 5th or 6th.

That should basically fix your line issues. And you can draft Penning and Ruiz replacements in the next two years.

Assuming Graham and Carter are gone before our picks, I want to end up with three of these guys before the 3rd round starts.

DE Nic Scourton 6’4” 285lbs
DE Shemar Stewart 6’6” 290lbs
DE Landon Jackson 6’7” 280lbs
DT Alfred Collins 6’5” 320lbs
DT Deone Walker 6’6” 345lbs
DE Jared Ivey 6’6” 285lbs
OG Wyatt Milum 6’6” 317lbs
OT/OG Grey Zabel 6’6” 305lbs
OG Tate Ratledge 6’6” 320lbs
C Jonah Monheim 6’5” 310lbs
OG Tyler Cooper 6’6” 310lbs

i really hope we can move down a few picks, grab another 3rd then trade back up for 2 2nds.

First round - in order if avail at 9- Grahmn, McMillan, Johnson(hard to pass up top CB if he runs a 4.4 or better) since we dont know about Adebo

If we get to trade back a few spots 11-13 range - Warren.Starks,BPA

Tackle class will probably be better next year.

I wouldn’t hate any pick, really. Would prefer a trade down (it will never happen) unless an elite talent like Will Johnson, Graham, McMillan or someone like that falls.

I could even be talked into a player like Jalon Walker if we make the switch to a 3-4

I mean it’s easy to say this but we need playmakers too. We need everything. Just take good fricking players. You can figure the rest out and things become a lot easier if you can just hit on 3 or 4 guys this year. It’s easier to hit on more guys with more picks.

But I have a feeling Moore is gonna fall in love with McMillan or Jeanty and that’s who we take. Just a gut feeling.

I'm taking a chance on Tyler shough in the 3rd round.

The pick at 9 has to be d line or o line.
