I wasnt trying to mislead I was just suggesting what the teams were able to accomplish post trade

again if PFF wants to be short sighted and evaluate a trade after 1 season I would like to see what those teams were able to accomplish in addition to individual accolades

part of the Saints value in that trade was because they were pushing for a NFC/SB title which by all accounts they should have in their possession today

a major part of our trade was Sean and Mickey betting the house on us being a SB contender. had they failed on that part of the trade nothing else would even matter as we would have been bent over on value.

considering we hit that mark I agree with you and think we should look at the trade at the moment as straight up player vs player along with needs being filled

most of the Saints FO I believe are happy with the trade today and they should be. Davenport showed enough to warrant tempered excitement.

I wonder if the Saints would trade him to GB to get that pick back?

I don't think I would.

Link? I don’t think this was the case. If we wanted a DE that was going to make an immediate impact we would have forked our $$$ for Ziggy or someone else last year. Young DE’s rarely have double digit sacks. Davenport will be that kind of player. He probably would have had 6 or 7 had he not gotten hurt.

Anyway, I feel like the move was to get a DE for now AND the future. But of course, since he didn’t break Reggie White’s sack record, he’s worthless

after just 1 year? nobody here would be that unreasonable. he has the rest of his rookie deal to do that or he is worthless.

Guy looks like a stud in the making to me. Hindsight analysis is interesting but not particularly useful.

Davenport was an animal before the injury. He's going to be a beast this year once he gets more technique down.

Well, this is embarrassing:
The 2018 NFL All-Rookie Team
quote:

EDGE DEFENDER
Marcus Davenport, New Orleans Saints

Perhaps lacking in the ‘splash plays’ to be considered among the top for his position, Davenport was about as solid as one would expect from a rookie edge defender. He recorded 28 pressures on the season but his most impressive feat was his tackling skills – missing just a single tackle attempt on the year.

The other rookie edge defender was Bradley Chubb.

Let's play guess the PFF rating:
68.1 - #48 ED
69.7 - #41 ED

Who do you think was higher ranked by PFF?

value
14th pick - 1100 points

for

27th pick - 680 points
147th - 32.2 points
30th pick (2019) - 620 points

So in overall terms, yes we "lost" based off value of picks.

But if we're basing it off of cost efficiency, than Saints win (unless that 30th pick becomes some all-pro player).

We're seeing it the last 2 years, edge rushers get PAID. Cost controlled pass rushers are the 2nd most valuable position in the league, only to a QB. Those guys rarely hit the market majority of the time.

A good/elite cornerback doesn't cost as much on the open market and honestly are easier to find.

I couldn’t really disagree with that more. He was a very young, very raw prospect who I think they see as someone who can be elite in the future.

The immediate contributor/all in/ win now mode is absolutely created by this board and does not seem to be the direction the organization is actually taking. Fortunately the organization isn’t as shortsighted as many of our posters.

I feel like he's going to make a quantum leap in year 2. I'm expecting a big year from Marcus.

Using two 1st rounder picks to acquire one player is always gong to be hard to justify. That said, it’s way too early to draw conclusions on this move.

You could have hated on the Rankins pick during his first two years, then he came into his own and is a stud.

PFF also has Davenport rated as the top rookie edge defender with Chubb as number two. The kid played well and will only get better with time

The #27 and #30 picks don’t get you the #14 pick in the draft. The Saints made a great trade and Davenport has all the tools to become a great player for us.

Which seems like a good chance of happening. Davenport had a solid rookie year, even with him missing games. He’s one of the most violent tacklers I’ve seen
