Payton is on record that he doesn’t care about the roster that much, he cares about ownership and front office.

Rams are:

In LA where he lives now, his daughter lives, and where his wife wants to live.

Ultra rich owner

FO that has proven they will do anything to win and built a sustained winner and championship team.

He will pick the Rams and the Saints won’t have a say. They will have to make the best deal they can.

Saints don't have to trade Sean, and Sean doesn't have to coach for a team he doesn't want to. This will prevent a bidding war imo

Best case scenario is he has equal interest in two teams, let’s say the Chargers and Cardinals. Then it becomes a Deshaun Watson trade scenario where one team is given permission to negotiate a deal.

Likely there will be a wildcard team that will also enter the bidding war that hasn’t been discussed. My dark horse is the Colts.

There's no denying Herbert's talent level, but the production isn't there to match it.

What are you even talking about? Herbert has produced more in his first 3 seasons than any QB ever. He just turned in his third straight 4,000 yard season. No other QB has ever done that in 3 seasons to open their career.

Herbert’s issue is not “production”. It’s that (to this point) he isn’t clutch. And his surrounding talent is constantly hurt.

Yep. It’s also the chargers. Maybe the craziest franchise in the league the last 20 years with somehow stealing defeat from the jaws of victory. I mean they had the number one defense AND offense and still didn’t make the playoffs one time

I was hoping he would announce Dennis Allen as his DC.

He’s not going to sit out two more years if he’s already assembling a staff. We only need 2-3 teams with mutual interest to get the bidding up. I mean even solid teams with good young QBs should be shooting their shot here.

I’d rather call his bluff, make him sit and get nothing than trade a strong asset for pennies on the dollar.

I value passer rating over yards. Obviously this is a personal preference. Dak and Winston have led the nfl in passing yards, but neither were among top 5 qbs in those years. Again, imo

I thought his 2 teams were Chargers and Arizona? When did the Rams come into the mix?

He needs to concentrate on staying out of the front office's business. The majority of the shite show we have now is his doing

That’s fine if you’re just talking about “your top 5”, but you used the word production which generally has a pretty objective meaning in this sport.

The starting point is 2 1st round picks to even have a convo otherwise don't let him out his contract. I want king's ransom.

Then he does another year of tv then becomes a FA. No compensation then owed to the Saints.

That’s not at all settled. I read somewhere that this situation has never happened before in the NFL, where a coach retires with years left on his contract then wants to come back. It’s something that would likely end up in litigation if the Saints choose to push it, costing Payton time signing with a new team.

Payton been with Saints for over decade. He had greatest QB on field for him. QB position was most important position during his coaching era. He had power make roster decisions at all positions. Saints didn't have great rosters going into playoffs. Payton record playoff record wasn't horrible but not great. It was Brees decision making got Saints very far.
