I believe it’s a much clearer path to recovery. Turf toe can have a wild range of recovery times. Surgery and then rehab is usually a pretty clear timeline.
Yeah, but this timeline is probably going to be the entire year.
It's pretty hard to try and suggest this is a positive bit of information.

However, I would agree that if it's a clearer injury that generally requires surgery, rehab and path to recovery, that is a positive compared to a less clear and possibly lingering issue.
We're still in the dark of the exact injury and it's been less than 24 hours since it occurred, so everything typed here is speculative.
Easily he is going to miss time that would help his development this season and is unfortunate.
We've seen what's happened with MT13's ankle injury and a couple weeks ago, ST was ready to amputate Winston's foot. Point being, let's see how it plays out.

choose to believe that he wasn’t going to play for a while anyway. It probably isn’t true but it makes me feel better.
He was doing well and we all know it. Sucks.

If he is having surgery that's bad.
He will probably be out at least 3 months.

He’s done for the year. Now we will see how the team feels about it’s in house backup tackle options. If Hurst goes down too we will be in deep shite. Eric Fisher is still out there but I doubt he’d sign to be a backup.
I'm sure they will be signing someone of significance. Won't be
eric fisher. He has already been contacted by 8 teams.

That goes out of the window when it's a season long injury.
I'd 100% prefer a "less clear, lingering issue" injury whose timeline was estimated at 8 games.

Isn’t turf toe caused by the ligament bending back and not by someone stepping on your foot?

It's when your toes are planted and heel up, a player steps on the back fricking up the ligaments in the foot. That's the most common cause.

If I had to choose, for a first round selection and possible staple at LT, I'd rather him fully healthy next season if that's the case. It's not like he can't develop in the film room, etc.

Isn’t it his left foot?
Had to look around but it appears so.
Injury had to be here then.

The original Tweet this morning by Ian Rapoport did not say turf toe was an official diagnosis. The Tweet clearly said that it was BELIEVED Penning had a bad case of turf toe but a MRI was pending to determine the extent of the damage. The ligament tear had to be detected with the MRI.

He should be back in time for the Super Bowl.

I’m sure they will be very cautious with his recovery. It’s a shame but Hurst is more than adequate. If he goes down, Peat can slide over to tackle. Sleep well, guys.

I know Whit is retired, but with his Louisiana connections could he be coxed out for 1 season assuming he stayed in playing shape?

He would just go back to the defending champion rams. I can't believe y'all are serious.

Not to mention the Rams still have his rights so we’d have to trade for him.
Eric Fisher would be a great option and he’s better than Hurst.

Fisher would cost a nice chunk though.
I think they will be looking for more of a 3rd tackle then a starter.
