Ed werder just said Penning wont even start. Wow. He’s officially benched when your starting Cam Erving and Peat over him.

Starting Penning at Tackle is effectively conceding pressures on every 5-7 step drop. He’s simply not good enough against NFL ends.

This is so weird especially when we all seem to think we saw marked improvement from Big Trev in weeks 3 - 5

With this information it's hard to consider Penning anything but a massive bust, made worse by assets traded to draft him.

Saints were due for an outright bust, sadly

Did we ever try giving him TE help? One of the reasons you draft Olave and pair him with MT13 is that they should be able to get open even without a TE heading out as an additional potential target.

Carr needs to run more as hes dedinitely had some lanes. that helps keep the LBs honest. He's a great athlete.

This could be where a sub par playcaller and schemer might be biting us.

I mean his play recently has sucked but might be an internal issue as well.

I recall the first or second game where Penning gave up a sack and Derek Carr slammed his hands down and looked very aggravated with Penning. My theory is that Carr doesn't want Penning at LT and internally has used him as a scapegoat for his inability to be as good as he should be.

Yes my theory does assume that Carr is not a good leader and has an inability to carry blame appropriately.

Penning should be put in positions to succeed, give him some help if need be. He was making strides and all of that has been lost with how the team has used the media to try and make Penning the reason for the offenses lack of success.

- not sure I agree but I heard this was an issue with him with Raiders. He had a tough time accepting blame for his miscues. Although in the Penning situation I think I agree with him.

That is utterly amazing.

They are DESPERATE on the OL and at Tackle and they still aren't starting him.

I honestly don't even know what to say

Logically it makes no sense.

In that case I would assume that this would be an emotional decision.

Emotional decisions have no place in the NFL

Penning hasn't been good, but he hasn't been bad to the point that you have to throw every linemen you have out there, even guys out of position, before putting him in the game. It's very weird.
