I recall the first or second game where Penning gave up a sack and Derek Carr slammed his hands down and looked very aggravated with Penning. My theory is that Carr doesn't want Penning at LT and internally has used him as a scapegoat for his inability to be as good as he should be.
Yes my theory does assume that Carr is not a good leader and has an inability to carry blame appropriately.
Not sure I blame Carr for not wanting to get wrecked from his blind side 6-7 times every game. Especially when he’s still probably dealing with that AC joint sprain.

They do when you’re a bad head coach feeling the heat.

To me, there has to be something personal going on behind the scenes.
Something going on between him and the Coaching staff and they are sending a message, or something between him and Carr or other players.
There is NO other explanation for it than that.

RIP Carr. You tried my dude and I appreciate that as a die hard black and gold fan since age 7. God speed.
And yes I agree this is so freaking weird. Feels like they are trying to blame one unit or person when this is collective FAIL. From coaching on down. As of now he is looking like a massive bust.

This is the second year DA has had an issue like this. Last year was at QB, where it was odd that Jameis never got his starting job back even though he was healthy enough to play and Dalton was playing like shite. This after declaring Jameis the starter similar he did with Penning. DA has had a rough time handling personnel matters as a head coach. Making it irrational and weird decisions and not giving an adequate explanation to the media and the fans for those decisions. DA is just a bad head coach man.

A few weeks ago I was defending Penning saying he’ll improve. He may have slightly but when he came in last week he was getting torched. I don’t know, I give a 1st round draft pick a pass rookie year, even some 2nd year but he hasn’t truly improved at all. Maybe slightly with help on his side, haven’t seen improvement one on one though against a DE with no help.

Penning hasnt been good but there is no way hes not as good as the practice squad guys that will be playing instead. This is just weird.

Wonder if we in the process of moving penning to guard

Agree with all this.

He has a pass block win rate of 73%, 2nd worst in the entire league. He’s much worse than many of y’all think. Dude is a total bust

Peat will get hurt by the 2nd quarter- count on it

Has it been stated who is playing LG?
I think Jameis might concuss himself before tonight so that he doesn't play behind this OL when carr is murdered.

The Saints have 5 first or second round players (if you count peat) on the oline and the line is bad.... wouldn't that be more on coaching than the players. Even McCoy is playing poorly.

literally every draft analyst and nfl pundit were saying pre draft how risky penning was and he had a high chance of busting due to him being very raw and not playing against a high level of comp.
and what did we do? we took him anyway in the 1st round.

Penning was our best lineman from the 2nd half vs. Green Bay on
Something fishy is going on

Wasn't he projected 1st round by everyone?
Posted on 10/19/23 at 12:25 pm to Pels_Yaz
Also, yes he has not been worth anything close to 1st.
No, it's not a good idea to give up on a 1st round pick 10 games played into his career

These A-holes are more concerned with saving tjeir jobs than improving the team...though Gale won't fire them regardless
