I'd hold his rights for the length of his contract, and he can pray every night that his dream job is open again when his contract is up. frick his dream job the way he fricked the Saints.

hell yeah. idgaf one way or the other but that is what i would do if i were loomis. loomis should be loking out for the saints best interest.

Loomis is, and Payton said on the interview that Loomis had a job to do

And getting one first rounder is definitely more in the saints best interest than holding on to CSPs rights out of spite.

The reality is that no coach is stupid enough to mortgage the next 1-2 years of draft picks, he knows cost controlled players gives you a clear 3-4 year window.

Saying aloud is stupid and annoying, but its something known behind closed doors.

Its our choice to trade him, but he's also not going to be okay with going to a team with 0 draft picks for 2 years.
Just yesterday people were talking about getting 3 or 4 firsts from Carolina. LOL.

Payton's being so nonchalant about this whole thing because he's dragging Loomis by the balls just like has for the last 16 years. Openly discussing the compensation he's told Mickey he's going for is maniacal.

He was also very sure to specifically say a mid-to-late first in case ol' Mickey got froggy about wanting Houston or Arizona's early firsts.

Spot on and laughing at all the posts here saying a bidding war was underway that will drive up the costs to a Gruden like haul. Frankly if they get a 1st that’s better than I thought.

Also I don't really know what Payton is really worth. Yeah he's a Super Bowl winning coach but that was almost 13 years ago.

13 years in the NFL is a lifetime. I'd wager less than 5% of players drafted in 2010, the draft after the Super Bowl, are even in the league.

I'll be happy with a 1st rounder and any other picks they want to throw in. It will ideally be the Texans at #12 in a best case scenario but looking more likely to be Denver which will give us a very late 49ers pick.

Time to move on.

FYI. Said the compensation for saints would be mid to late 1st round pick, or the equivalent. And he's talked to Loomis about it.

It's bullshite that Loomis is discussing compensation with Payton. Their friendship is in the way. Also, we should ask for much more than that. If we cannot get a franchise QB via this trade, we should not be eager to meet his wants. He left us, not the other way around. If Loomis does not get max value, he should be fired immediately.

So how does Payton and Loomis discussing the value turn into Payton determining what it is? I doubt Payton would agree to coach a team that traded away all draft capital for the next two years.

Too damned bad. Maybe he should have honored his contract then.

The expecting a first, plus compensation for '24 in the 2nd or third is not out to lunch

We don’t know this though. We have a bunch of people with B and G glasses on saying we SHOULD get more. That’s a big difference. The last coaching rights that were traded went for a fricking 6th rounder and he was out of the league like Peyton currently is.

I’m not equating Payton to Arians but to just assume we’re getting the Gruden deal isn’t accurate. A first seems REALLY reasonable by the saints.

Lots of you are misreading this. Sean Payton isn’t dictating anything, he’s relaying what the Saints have said they’re looking for in return.

Just because he said mid to late 1st rd. doesn't necessarily mean that's where it will stay. As things heat up so could the ante. I want Payton to run his head for the whole world to hear. Puts the front office under the microscope.

I think Payton already knows where he's going(or wants to go). Thats why he made sure to put out there how much the compensation decreases if Loomis doesn't get the deal done this offseason.

How is getting less for Payton in the Saints best interest? If a deal doesn't get done this offseason the price drops dramatically next year since his contract would run out. If Loomis does not get a deal done this year he should be fired, he would have pissed away a first-round draft pick.

Agree saints playing with house money on this. If a team wants him bad enough they will pay more than a mid to late 1st.

Screw Payton for creating a mess and walking away from it. He had 4 or so years to find a new qb and failed then he bailed
