Figured Loomis would send one of our shite players like MT along with our entire draft in 2024 for someone to hire Payton.
Prepare to be underwhelmed…

Said the compensation for saints would be mid to late 1st round pick,

I don't see how it's appropriate for him to be out there setting his own trade value. He's a tradeable asset. It's Mickeys job to determine and receive his value ans SP should have zero input into it.

Feels like Loomis is going to get snookered again. We'll take the Broncos back end pick and overdraft a toolsy often injured d lineman won't we?

Payton should have no comment and nothing to do with the compensation component of the trade.

This. And, his leaking this information at this point is very out of line.

Loomis needs to start feeling the heat from the fan base. Pre-determining value before hearing offers from teams is a failure of his fiduciary duty.

Just yesterday people were talking about getting 3 or 4 firsts from Carolina. LOL.

The point was that it would take an insane deal to give him up to a division rival. Nobody was suggesting that was the market for Payton.

Lots of you are misreading this. Sean Payton isn’t dictating anything, he’s relaying what the Saints have said they’re looking for in return.

That's out of line for Payton...and if it's true, it's a peek into how poorly the Saints are run.

I can assure you the saints are not expressly dictating Sean’s value. They are fielding best offers. That’s how this works so I’m not sure where you are getting this from.

I think a lot of posters here are gonna melt when they see the actual compensation for Payton.

Would it? If Payton comes back and says he wants to go to Carolina, whats Mickey gonna do?

Sean's lap dog already said he's not going to get in the way of him coaching. Now Payton's on national tv sending threats about how its a mid-late first and the compensation goes way down if they don't get it done this offseason.

In the end i think the return for Payton will be fine. I just think certain people's expectations are way out of whack, including the idea of there being some huge extra cost for Carolina. If Loomis actually had a backbone he wouldn't even let Payton talk to division teams.

I don't expect him to find his spine, or dignity, at the negotiating table. I'd love to be wrong.

I was coincidentally listening to the interview live while in the car, and stayed listening after I had gotten to work, because I was surprised at how much detail Payton was giving out. I had to wait for Cowherd to say "Sean" to make sure my ears weren't deceiving me .

That being said, a non top-10 1st seems reasonable to me. But that doesn't really matter since the market dictates the value as others have said.

hell yeah. idgaf one way or the other but that is what i would do if i were loomis. loomis should be loking out for the saints best interest.

That would be dumb as frick and the opposite of the Saints' best interest. You'd be forfeiting a high draft pick for no good reason.

That’s how this works

The way this works is the Saints have a perceived value in mind and that’s the bottom line. That’s in no way saying they won’t get more or ask for more. But it will take a mid to late rounder at the very least, they aren’t taking less. When teams call and ask for permission to talk to Payton the conversation starts with “here’s the asking price, don’t bother talking to him if you aren’t going to offer.”

They would likely say that a team is offering a mid 1st for Payton. The Saints wouldn’t want to box themselves in and say it will take xyz to get Sean. Trust me lol

It's been out of line for Payton to be openly coveting jobs coaches held. But he did that all season. It's no surprise, though, because he's a low-character person.

Payton's arrogance knows no bounds.

I’m beginning to dislike Loomis. And Payton should not be saying what the compensation will be.

There are multiple potential suitors.
