The Carolina Panthers are benching quarterback Bryce Young following an 0-2 start to the 2024 season, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported on Monday, per a source.

Andy Dalton will start in place of Young beginning with this week's road game in Las Vegas, per Pelissero.

Young, the 2023 No. 1 overall pick, has struggled mightily two games into his second season, completing 31 of 56 passes for 245 yards with zero touchdowns and three interceptions.

I was really happy they drafted Young over Stroud! I'd hate to have to go up against Stroud twice a year for 15 years!

Glad to see Panthers coaches and management are finally coming to the realization that the rest of the world knew immediately following their decision for the 2023 #1 overall draft pick.

Stroud wouldn't have the same success in Carolina. It's much deeper than just Young. Doesnt help that's he's 5'6 but still.

They’ve got to be trying to protect Bryce’s psyche. What’s the point of going to Dalton and finishing 4-13 or 5-12 and getting a worse draft pick while still not even sniffing the playoffs.

I guess they could say something like “Look Bryce, we don’t have the pieces around you to give you the best chance for success, we threw you into the fire way too fast and asked too much of you, why don’t we take a breath, let you sit for a bit and learn from Andy on what it takes to be a starting QB in this league, and we’ll go back to you when you’re more set up for success.” Maybe he would buy that.

But I think it’s a risk to his psyche/mental health/confidence in the long term either way they go, though. Leave him in to get beat up on the field and in the media or bench him and risk having him think you’ve given up on him just 19 games into his career. He literally might not see a 2nd contract. With anybody. What an all-time frick up that trade was.

What a disaster of a franchise at the moment.

Don’t get me wrong, Young is not playing well and should be benched. But he hasn’t been put in a position to do well either. At least when the Bengals got Burrow they went out and spent money to buy a defense. Carolina actually got rid of their good players.

Canales had to do something.

The longer you wait to make a change when one is needed badly, the quicker you can lose the respect of your players.

They've scored 13 points in two games

This is great news. Gives them a better chance to win against our divisional (and NFC) opponents

It is good that they may now win enough games to get out of the #1 overall pick. But, regardless of how many they win, they can still move on from Bryce and go all in on Sanders Added bonus, they may need a new HC too.

We should maybe take a flier on him.

Former Panther starters Darnold and Mayfield have a combined 46 tds to 14 ints since leaving Carolina….

I thought the story was no one wanted him but the owner.

How bout the Dolphins with Tua hurt and his future in question? If Young can’t play in Miami for McDaniels and with all their weapons, then he simply can’t play in the NFL. Worth a shot for Miami. Throw Carolina a 5th rounder (maybe turns into conditional 4th if he plays a certain amount of snaps) and if he fits in the system enough just to be a decent backup, great. And would prevent the Panthers from falling into the sunken cost trap and also having to answer questions about him all year long. I’m sure Bryce would welcome a fresh start. Win/win/win.
