With the way the defense and running game are going; they may be able to sit him until week 16 (out 5 weeks), which also gives him a long week before week 17. That way he'll have 2 live games to get back into the rhythm before playoffs.
He would miss:
Atl: 3-6 (won 3 of last 4)
@Den: 3-6
@Atl: 3-6
@Phi: 3-5-1
KC: 8-1
Return for:
Minny: 3-5
@Car: 3-7

41 years old with 5 broken ribs and a collapsed lung? Not in 3 weeks. I give Drew credit for standing on the sidelines, I would have been screaming for MS.

Give us the scoop on this injury and rehab, TB
Depends on the size. If it's small it could resolve in a few days. Otherwise it'll be a week or 2 for resolution. I haven't read up on it to see if it was large enough to need a chest tube or not. If so, I'd expect 4 weeks minimum. They could push him in a couple of weeks if small enough but I'd be hesitant to do that. Plus the ribs are going to hurt for a long time.

So let’s say the lung is healed in 4 weeks, the ribs will mostly be a pain management deal right?

With 5 cracked ribs he's not going to be able to throw very far or be very mobile.
Luckily for us.......

Yeah, if it's a very small pneumo, then the ribs will actually be more of a problem. He'll have to wrap them pretty tightly and may be somewhat skittish.

Hopefully it’ll also force some other Offensive Players to step it up while he’s out. Players like MT, Sanders & all the other WRs & Cook in the passing department at least.
Hopefully it’ll force CSP to run the damn ball more & stick with it! L Murray should be pretty fresh.

3 weeks would be at Philly
I wouldn't risk it in possible winter weather or very cold
Than you play the Chiefs with one of best DL in Jones
Followed by Vikings who at least don't have all the studs from last season's playoffs that nearly got Brees killed anyway
Then another cold weather game potentially in Carolina

Well this is what we signed Winston for!
Let's see what he's got.

I’ve purposely not kept up with the schedule but damn it’s favorable down the stretch no matter who the qb is. That’s nice

I just read that he has multiple fractured ribs and a collapsed lung. Non way hes back in 3-4 weeks. His season might be done.

First, a collapsed lung is no big deal. He’ll be completely over that in two weeks. Second, the number of fractured ribs is meaningless. It takes the same amount of time for five ribs to heal as one rib - and that’s six weeks max.

Even without Brees we should go 5-2 or 4-3.
That’s finishing 11-5 at worst. I believe we would still make playoffs and get Brees that one last super bowl run healthy enough.

Honestly, after the playoff game last year where he was running for his life I’d be hesitant for him to play vs Minnesota.
Sets up nicely though if we can hold. I’d think we lose to the Chiefs without him, only to have him return and beat them in the Super Bowl rematch. So it is written, so it shall come to pass

I work in the medical field as a nurse anesthetist and we offer a procedure call cryoneurolysis for procedures like fractured ribs. What happens is a needle is positioned right next to the intercostal nerve of the fractured rib posterior to the fracture. The nerve is then frozen and loses it’s innervation to transmit pain. Now, as long as the rib is healing and not at risk of further damage, the pain can be controlled. This procedure is suppose to stop the pain for 3-6 months or as long as it takes for the nerve to regenerate. I know it’s offered in the New Orleans area. We mainly do it for total knees for recovery but it’s also being used in fractured rib applications.

I’m 44 and broke three ribs in August two of them were displaced which I’m not sure if Drew is dealing with or not. In my case it took me 5 weeks before I could sleep in anything other than a recliner. Took me 7 weeks before I could throw a baseball with my boys. I hope in his case he heals quicker than me. It was miserable and hurt like hell I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I'll be happy if we can win 2 of the next 3. We should beat the Broncos, & I'm guessing we split with Atlanta.
We should beat the Eagles as long as we don't screw up too much.
Chiefs & Vikings are pretty tough, but at least we get them at home.
Carolina will probably be resting players for week 17, since they'll be out of playoff contention.
5-2 or 4-3 the rest of the way imo. With luck on our side...6-1

The lung will be fine in a week or two. The ribs are the key, and it'll be less about "healing" and more about what Brees can manage from a pain and discomfort perspective.
