This is the big thing, many of these places are jot single use facilities like Tiger Stadium.
They turn these places over sometimes 7 times a week for a multitude of diff events.

I remember that. People with allergies had issues. I wonder if that's why it never returned.

It’s the practicality and maintenance of such a system.
You don’t need to only grow grass and move it into the dome. You have to be able to put a quality surface out there every week even after it’s torn up the week before.
And the logistics and cost of it of course are issues.
It’s the same thing for these soccer fields. Doing for a short term is very different than being able to maintain and grow a quality field in places that are cold in the winter.
Artificial turf fields and the associated injuries are unfortunately are a cost of doing business. I saw they are testing a cork vs rubber base that’s supposed to be better.

There have been a number of trials over the years regarding moving grass into domed stadiums using containers.
They all have the same issue... the seams between the containers never grow in and cause grip problems.

This is the real issue.
Teams ask cities to pony up hundreds of millions, if not more, to build these stadiums.
The cities want to be able to use these massive investments for more than 10-12 football games per year.
Grass takes a while to take hold and when it dies, it's even worse.
I think the push needs to be how to reduce injuries on turf. Not all turf fields are that bad.

I believe Saints, Vikings, and Lions are the only domed teams that don’t have a retractable roof

Your statement is 100% correct. But at the same time it’s a slap in the face of the NFL players when teams/stadiums are bending over backwards to switch to natural grass for the World Cup; but not even considering it for their actual investments/assets

2 things here:
1. It's only for 2 to 4 weeks.
2. Just wait. The biggest complaint for the WC will be pitch condition. These makeshift grass fields they are bringing in are going to be complete garbage. Always are. Remember the Super Bowl and the 2 week old field that was played on?

Do they not wear different cleats for playing on turf? He had long spikes on which got caught in the turf causing his injury.

That would require some personal accountability on behalf of the players and training staff. Much better to keep doing what they are doing and blame the turf; even though the same injuries have happens on grass fields

I remember the shite show that was the SB in Zona and also when SF tried to bring in grass to their old stadium a few years ago.
