"Had an NFL cap guy tell me yesterday the league has vaguely mentioned they could take action via compensatory picks if they believe teams intentionally gamed the system by waiting until just after deadline to sign free agents so they won't count. My money is on nothing happens."

Teams would just say, "We thought we were going to fill the need in the draft, but did not."

They will make an example out of the Saints for something that everyone has done for years...I have seen this show before.

I'd agree with this and think it's a non-starter. Why would you even have a deadline then?

This isn't even anything new, happens every year.

So? You run the risk of another team signing the player you want, just so you can hang on to a low draft pick.

Should fall under Bold Strategy Cotton.

Teams "gamed the system" under the previous cba by waiting until post june 1st. Payton specifically said they waited to sign Goodwin one year because it gave them a comp pick.

So really just sounds like someone making up some bullshite to "scare" fans.

They intentional moved the deadline to right after the draft so players and teams wouldn't have to wait a month with players missing a ton of otas in may.

I KNEW this was coming.

I was going to start a thread on it but thought I would get called a loon.

Since compensatory picks started being distributed in 1994, the Ravens have received the most (52) followed by the Patriots and Cowboys (43). The Saints (10) have received the fewest.

Now, the one time the Saints do something to take advantage of this system, they want to take action

Well since the Patriots and Rams are the teams that constantly game the comp pick system, I'm betting that jack shite nothing comes of this

Roger Goodell should be put in a cage with one of Carole Baskin's tigers on PPV for pandemic relief.

To make matters worse I think we received 1 under Payton, and this is the 1st time we'd get multiple, including the highest possible round.

But as I said, this sounds like complete bs to me so unless someone legit starts reporting I won't believe it.

I mean Lance's "source" is an "nfl cap guy", which could mean anything and likely is no one actually in the nfl.

That is what the Saints are doing with Jamis Winston.

NFL can't prove it with concrete evidence. But we all know they never need to have that to prove a point

Oh man, I fear you are correct.

Goodell may not wait unit the season starts to exact revenge for SP's impudent display of non-NFL-endorsed consumer products.
