I think their mock draft is crap, but I'm posting this because one of our Saints board posters predicted this about a week ago

quote:

9. New Orleans Saints: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State

Warren projects to be the next in line of instant-impact tight ends in the NFL, and in this scenario the Saints jump on the trend and upgrade the offense.

It kills 2 birds with 1 stone in a sense.
Position of need at TE while giving us another legitimate receiving threat.

Would melt.

Beside most likely not being the bpa, we need linemen on both sides and wr way before fricking te is addressed.

I’m sure he will good, but I was 100% sure Bowers would be great. And we’d be picking this guy higher than Bowers.

Don’t think I’d burn a top ten pick on a te when other higher priority positions will available.

3 birds, really. Wipe out run blocker as well. Will get Gronk comps after the combine

This board has a fascination with drafting tight ends more than any other position.

This team needs all the playmakers it can get, so I would be all for it.

Team Bowers 2024™ was 100% correct last year.

Because we haven’t had one in almost a decade.

Warren is a great player, but they shouldn’t spend their first pick on a TE.

Literally any other position would be better lol

In a very different draft with several 1st round QBs (6 taken) that pushed a great player like Bowers to 13. In this particular draft Bowers would maybe be a top 5, definitely top 10 pick.

You don't compare the pick to previous drafts. You compare it to who else is available in THIS draft. In this draft there is no surefire #1 QB. Hell, teams are going to be hesitant to take the two top rated QBs. The most intriguing players are Hunter and Carter. Neither will be there at #9

The Saints could use help at multiple spots. One of those is TE. While Warren is likely not Bowers, he had some pretty remarkable numbers this year. And it wasn't just as a TE. He was athletic enough to have success as basically a QB/RB. If this were last year's draft you could probably argue the Saints had bigger needs and better players to fill those needs to chose from. This year, the Saints may still have bigger needs than TE...but they may not have the better players from which to choose from.

Don’t even care. If he’s the BPA then go for it. We pretty much need talent everywhere and will for a few years.

With Warren, the Saints could have two Taysom Hills at the same time.

Meh. He's a great slot receiver who lifted his team to 4 less wins after drafting him. Positional value is a real thing.

It really is too early for mocks. Anything before the combine is just playing with yourself. Also, a lot of sites have Harold Fannin Jr. rated higher than Warren.
