Ian Rapoport reporting live from Metairie on the Pat Mcafee show saying that the vibes through the building are a little more relaxed and refreshed.
Implied that Payton may have rubbed some guys the wrong way, and said it was a needed change.
Expecting a stout year from us comparing Jameis and Burrow coming on slow after his injury in the first month of the season.
Said DA has been intense during on field stuff while being relaxed and incredible off the field.

Will post link shortly.

Ian Rapoport Saints Conversation

Thought that was interesting and semi-new information to shed light on what’s going on.

Two biggest coaching worries:

One: Who's going to flex the offensive muscle in the coaching staff to imprint THEIR stamp on the offense and not try to carryover what's been done before.

Two: Will DA be stretched too thin as a HC and keeping himself too involved on the defensive side of the ball.

Comparing anyone to Burrow, let alone Jameis is a mistake. But I do think Jameis will have a good season.

He did mention he was hesitant to compare the two

1. Seems Carmichael is doing just that. Ian said that he talked to him, and PC said that they don’t want to do the same things as the Brees era and cater more to Jameis’s strengths (deep ball, using his mobility)

2. I’m curious as well, but cautiously optimistic just because of the depth that we have.

People act like Pete Carmichael isn't on the sideline anymore. The offense will be more than fine.

It's an unknown. Not only does PCJr have to correctly design and implement the offense, he also has to brash the confidence to make his players believe in it as well. This could be a great turning point for his career.

I think this was obvious as we see a complete attitude shift in Michael Thomas. And being that Payton was checked out last year, it rubbed off on the players.

This is good to hear, but every team and coach looks great during practice. The real test will come very soon.

We had a prime Drew Brees running the show. And many times it's been proven that a player makes a coach, and not the other way around.

My only concern with Pete calling all the plays will be how much we pass. I think you still have to run the ball some. The year Sean was suspended Brees had a career high in pass attempts and his lowest completion percentage while at the saints. Hopefully Pete can find a good balance. This team will be pass heavy regardless because of the talent but you still have to have some balance.

It's a fair concern but the significant variable that season was that we had the worst defense in history. Hard to run the ball when you give up 21 every first quarter.

Yeah the defense was bad. And maybe that played a factor. It’s also possible Pete is just a more pass happy play caller. We will find out this year. Fortunately if he is pass happy we have the weapons for it to be effective. But you can’t become completely predictable

I think Sean would catch the virus and we would go pass happy. I think PCJR will be more balanced.

Makes no sense it wasn't like Payton's approach wasn't working.

I think pete carmichael will be fine as a play caller.

I actually think payton was great for jameis with his overbearing style.

Hopefully we get the same jameis this yr.

Everything else is pretty much in place. If jameis can be a top 12 qb the saints will be fine on offense.

The offense will be better.

Sean Payton made many boneheaded (stupid) in game decisions

There’s probably a reason why his name NEVER came came up in any kind of coaching searches the past 15 years. That’s the only thing that concerns me about the coaching staff this season.

It was in regards to the injury and recovery time on the field.
