One note: Swann was actually over his concussion issue. Then he hurt his leg last year.

In a decade we had like 3 serviceable to good linebackers.

Exactly , and all of them were made somewhere before they got here. Vitt couldn't develop for shite. Hell, Craig Robertson came in from Cleveland and was our best LB last season while Anthony regressed to the point of being a special teamer

Lattimore
Breaux
Williams
Swann
Moore

Hoping it all comes together in year 3

I'm hoping the same. It took him 3 years at Clemson to play up to his talent. Maybe he's a slow starter. I would love for him and Anzalone to be our LBs of the future just from a tangible standpoint we'd have the most athletic pair in the league.

Before people want to argue with you, here's the linebackers of our own division who get called extremely athletic.

Saints Anthony/Anzalone/average
40: 4.56, 4.63; 4.595
Bench: 23, 16; 19.5
Vert: 37, 30.5; 33.75
Broad: 122, 116; 119
3 cone: 7.07, 6.88; 6.975
20 shuttle: 4.03, 4.25; 4.14

Tampa David/Alexander/average
40: 4.65, 4.55; 4.60
Bench: 19, 24; 21.5
Vert: 36.5, 36.0; 36.25
Broad: 119, 121; 120
3 cone: 7.28, 7.14; 7.21
20 shuttle: 4.22, 4.20; 4.21

Atlanta Jones/Riley/average
40: 4.59, 4.58; 4.585
Bench: 18 (pro), 18; 18
Vert: 33.0, 34.5; 33.75
Broad: 120, 122; 121
3 cone: 7.13 (pro), 6.89; 7.01
20 shuttle: 4.26, 4.21; 4.235

40: ATL > NO > TB
Bench: TB > NO > ATL
Vert: TB > NO = ATL
Broad: ATL > TB > NO
3 cone: NO > ATL > TB
20 shuttle: NO > TB > ATL

TB: 2 1sts, 2 2nds, 2 3rds
NO: 2 1sts, 3 2nds, 1 3rd
ATL: 2 1sts, 2 2nds, 2 3rds

CSP doesn't know dick about defense....
If Anthony is a natural MLB and we moved him to a position he can't excell in...well that's on us.
What took CSP so long to get rid our our POS defensive coaches?

Now that Vitt is gone maybe we can actually coach a fricking LB up from the draft. I don't think Vitt successfully did that to anyone in his entire career here? That can't be a coincidence.

There's certainly been bigger turnarounds in history. The outlook seemed so dark though I would be satisfied if he just earns a role and approaches keeping for a 5th year in 2019.

Sidenote: I think ALL contracts should be 5th year option. It has become for me the benchmark of if a 1st Rd pick is successful or not. It is not a longterm commitment but it is pay commensurate with the upper third of that position. Do the same thing just lower on the scale.

Well this would be massive. Would be like an extra draft pick.

That's a brilliant way to look at it

I was happy with the Anthony pick in 15. I had read articles and interviews where Dabo had lauded his leadership and intelligence. He's a damn good athlete. We all know how bad Vitt was.....so I'm hoping that Nolan can come in and get him to his potential. He seems like a good kid. I didn't see anything where he became a locker room problem after being benched either.
We have made some solid moves at LB this offseason. So if our biggest problem is that we have too many good LBers.....I'll be happy with that lol

Oh man, you're such a fkn badass. The pats should just hire you today since you're so ruthless, although they probably care a whole lot about player-coach relationships and knowing the type of people their players are since they aren't retarded so maybe not.

I mean, He lead the team in tackles in 2015. That's got to count for something. I really don't have any doubt that with competent coaching, Anthony can and will be our starter.

How could you possibly be that confident? He couldn't get on the field over the likes of Michael mauti and Nate stupar

Ive been saying it for a while.. Why take a guy with 100 plus tackles his rookie season at middle linebacker and switch him to sam for an aging laurenitus.. And get mad at the kid for bad coaching moves smh!!! Rediculous!!!

It was a terrible move. Anyone with common sense could tell you Laurengitis would be a cancer for us at MLB. He sucked at the Rams and he sucked here. Glad that's done. How they ever signed that dude and thought he could man the middle effectively here as starting MLB is beyond me. I often wonder what goes on in the coaching meetings with Payton especially on defense.
